It's not bad, but I bet that if you watch for sales at Wal Mart or K-Mart or such places, you could get a better camera for the same money. It will not accommodate filters, which could be a problem if you advance in photography. From what I saw in the ad, it seems to have little or no optical zoom capability, which would be a real minus. It seems to be 5 MegaPixels, which is more than adequate for a starter camera.

I have found that when new models of cameras come out, the chain stores sell the old models, which are sometimes excellent cameras, dirt cheap.

If you want to learn about photography your better off getting an older professional level film body for very cheap like a canon eos 1n. And if you just want a digital point and shoot dont just look at megapixels, a 2 megapixel difference between cameras shouldnt be you deciding factor, higher megapixels only allow more cropping and bigger prints, but a 5 megapixel camera can easily print and 8 by 10

It's a fine camera for the price and Beach is a great place to shop - I recently ordered a $1200 lens there myself.
Just keep in mind that the 530 is not the camera in the world for action shots or for learning advanced photography - it's for snapshots.

depends what you are looking to do with it. if you just want it for fun shots of friends and family, it will work. however, if you want something more professional. or be able to manually change settings...(ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc.) you should look into a SLR digital. i recommend the canon rebel xt.

in response to eric--that is not true. i am a professional wedding photographer, and we all use digital cameras that range from $1000-$3000, depending on which one we got. and they are all better than film cameras.

No, film camera's are always better then cheap digital. Digital camera's aren't any good till you get upwards of $6,000.00 or higher.

If your learning photography, use this one:

It doesn't say on this website what the megapixels or optical zoom are. If you are serious about buying it, look it up on the Kodac website to see the features first. You want high megapixels, high optical zoom, and some digital zoom as well.
