Soak them in a pot of water at least two hours. Drain the water. Add new water to cover the beans by 2 inches. Heat to boil, turn down to simmer, let simmer covered for 1 1/2 hours or until soft.

Before you cook them, pour out the bag into a flat bowl and check for little pieces of rock or dirt, then rinse off. Start a pot of water boiling and add the beans. Do not add salt (or they will never get soft.) Do add pork fat, or at least some butter or oil. After they are boiled enough to be soft, 2-4 hours, then add salt, other seasonings, onions, etc. You will probably be happier with your beans if you use just one kind at a time, rather than the mix as different kinds take different amounts of time to cook. I have lived off of beans for years, and never got tired of them, but I sure made a mess the first time I tried cooking them. It takes some practice, but worth it. Good luck, kid.

I soak mine overnight and put them in the crock pot before I go to work with a ham hock (you can buy these in the store, they are smoked and cheap) I put enough water to completely cover them and put them on low all day, about 8 hours. No fuss, when you get home put them on the stove to boil without a lid so the juice will get thick . The Best!!
