The Word taught us that we are to "go ye out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in." Notice that it said "compel." The word means to ask, or to entice, not to cram it down their throats! While I will agree that there are many Christians who in their zeal to please God do cram it down their throats, I'm becoming rather tired, bored and angry with generalizations made by people like you who then turn around and claim the same Christianity! Have you witnessed to anyone recently? Did you go away feeling like you'd fulfilled you Christian duty? Did the person you witness to ever come to your church or any church for that matter and begin a relationship with God? If so, great! Glory be to God that He'd use you as a tool to lead a soul in. But if you went any futher with that soul without God's influence working a wisdom and cultivating a faith and a relationship with Him, then you're doing the same thing that you claim most other Christians are doing! There is a Scripture that says, "Woe unto those who would offend my little ones (young Christians)! For it would be better for a millstone to be hung around their necks and be cast into the sea and drowned!" Chew on that before you start generalizing the way people witness for Christ! Did you ever stop and think that with the world spinning out of control the way it has that maybe people are beginning to have a greater zeal for serving God and that such a witness is necessary?

Everything you've said here - exactly why I left the Christian church and the Christian way of life.
I don't know why a lot of Christians are like that - I've been trying to figure it out for years. The only thing I can come up with is that the Christians that push their religion on to others are really very insecure about their religion and feel they must recruit others to feel more secure. They say they want to save you, but all they really want to do is save themselves. The more the merrier, ya know? The more people in their little group, the more right they will be and the more wrong everyone else will be - strength in numbers - or something like that.
I really don't know. If and when I ever figure out for sure, I'll try to let you know.

I would like to preface my answer with a little about myself. I am not a Christian, nor do I identify myself with any religion. I am very put off by conservative religion, mostly because of the hypocracy in their LEADERS (emphasis on leaders in case you didn't notice;). I do not support any group who would convince a parents that their child will be damned to eternal suffering for loving someone of the same sex.
Anyway, people tend to think their group is superior, no matter what group. Their country, their religion, their sports team. Christians are just being perfectly normal humans by deciding that people who live different lifestyles are inferior. It may be true that all men are created equal, but that does not appear to be the case. Some are born into money while some are born with severe physical disabilities. WHAT makes any person superior???
It seems that in order to actually BE superior, one must identify this trait and focus every day on controlling their thoughts and avoiding thought of hatred, predjudice, and condemnation.

Well first of all, Christians are viewed as being pushy because everyone looks to them as if they are all perfect. Church was made for hypocrites, not perfect sinless people. Every single person is sinful and hypocritical. Not a single one is blameless. The reason they appear superior is that most Christians know they are going to Heaven, and want to help others get there too. There is an urgency to it. You need to read your Bible again to figure out the "what not". And maybe you will come across some passages on mercy and forgiveness while you are at it.

Christianity has both good and bad people, the same as any other religion. The mistakes of a few should taint the view of the whole. I was baptised catholic, but as I grew up it didnt answer many questions for me. I believe in God, but within the confines of a church nor the writtings of man. I do not believe God cares about the genitals of his people, and yet women are not fit to be priests? I think God's truth has been tainted by man. If men and women are not perfect then how do expect the Bible to be all the God intended? If God is infalliable, then how does man presume to know what is intended? Seems a bit presumptious to me!

If you believe Christians are pushy try living in a Muslim country like Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Afghanistan... where women are publicly beaten for not covering all their flesh. Where women are not allowed education. Where people are told what to believe and how to worship God. These countries have theocratic Muslim governments. America was founded by believers in Christ who fought against theocratic oppressors. Perhaps a little world travel and study of history might do you good.

As far as casting stones.... in it's context, we are told not to judge in an unfair manner... a woman was almost stoned to death for doing the same thing a man was doing who was NOT going to be stoned. We are commanded to make judgements in a fair manner... not that we SHOULDN'T make judgements.
Next... where is it in scripture that you find all this tolerance and acceptance?
Lastly... we shouldn't confuse tolerance and acceptance with CELEBRATION! You may be gay, athiest, democrat, vegetarian, prostitute, thief etc.... and I can tolerate you, but I won't be celebrating any of those attributes anytime soon.

By complaining about Christians acting self-righteous and morally superior, aren't you yourself implying that you are better than them because you don't act that way? But by implying that you are better, aren't you in fact acting self-righteous and morally superior?
