A good question. The answer is simple. Religion is big buisness and a big con-game.
And besides what does an organization need with money when thier own magic sky-pixie says that he will provide for them just by asking;
Mark 11:24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
Did you get that? WHATEVER you ask in prayer. No matter how small or large, and it WILL be yours. No conditions, no warnings, it WILL be yours.
The problem is that there are probably millions of people who pray every day that people stop invading thier country and murdering thier family members. But thier prayers are not answered. Why? god is imaginary, that's why.

Wow, you know the status of every one of the 350,000 churches in the US? That's amazing. I know exactly where our money goes, and it's stewarded very well. 10% of our funds go to programs in the community, and that includes an extensive program working with children of incarcerated people. And we are a relatively small congregation of 900 (doubled in three years). Our pastor and his wife drive donated cars and live in a modest house that is rented for them by the church, but they have meetings at home so they have a large living room. Our philosophy is to be in the neighborhood, and all our group of churches are located in schools (ours is in a theater). We contribute to the upkeep of the facility, which in turns helps out the community a LOT. It's a win-win. You are stereotyping millions of people and you don't know what you are talking about. Why don't you do your research instead of assuming all Christian act like the few bad ones?

There are many reasons for 'giving' money to the church. You must look at it this way, the church is not just a building. The church are the people of God. In Malachi 3:8-12, the Word of
God asks will a man rob God? "But we ask Him how have we robbed him. And he says in tithes and offering. He goes on to say that when we do pay tithes and offerings all the things He will do for us. No, no man can buy Gods' favor or force His hand. But if you want to obey Him, you simply do what He asks us to do. It often amazes me how we can spend billions of dollars each year on things that cannot give us eternal life, but we gripe about the things that God asks us to do . Say for instance, dog food, sodas and bottles water, there are millions of dollars spent each year on these things and nobody utters a word. But let us talk about the church or help one another and all kinds of flags go up. Something is wrong here and God is not pleased. The church is often feeding the homeless and giving to the needy. Yes I am aware that some in positions in the church do misuse the trust that others have placed into their hands. But hey, they have to give an account to God for that. I simply do what God has asked me to do. No one cares if rap stars, movie stars, rock and roll stars are paid millions each year from our hard earned dollars, but ask for something for the church, oh God forbid. We don't care if these people are carousing around in limos, bentleys, hummers. But let a pastor, a man or woman of God get one and "them folks down there at that church ain't right". Come on, where is the spiritual logic here. Non-citizens don't have to pay taxes either but I don't hear anyone making a fuss about that. No we cannot buy our way into Heaven or into God's favor, but we can do what is required of us. MayGod Bless

I can't understand that either. If they're so "right" with God, then why can't they just pray for riches and let the money flow down like manna from Heaven? (Of course, we all know Christianity was "invented" to control people. Not to lead them to God or spiritual enlightenment. So the church manages to talk the boobs out of their hard-earned cash by telling them that God loves a cheerful giver, or some other crap like that.)

Why not? Churches have to have bills paid, seats, air, lights, electricity ... how would they otherwise be able to operate.
I'm not saying that all churches treat the money appropriately, however, those that are, why shouldn't we give money.
We give money to the government ... what do they do with it? We give money for taxes ... do you stop paying taxes to a government that's not broke? ... although, they tell us they are.

Billions of taxpayer dollars go to fund this nonsense every year. Just imagine all the things we could have been doing with that money, funding medical research, feeding the poor, paying off our national debt, etc.
Religion is like a cancer to this country.

I agree 99.9% of all churches are corrupt they won't even help out the needy. They keep all the money for themselves look at all those TV preachers when's the last time they offered to help you?

They have to pay for heat, electricity, water, salaries, church necessities (wine, wafers, linens, candles,etc,) Each church is responsible for itself otherwise it will close.
