Trying to decide between Cuisinart and Kitchenaid for my new food processor. Which do you think is best, and why?

Also, if you have one of these brands, do you wash the parts in the dishwasher, and if so do you have a problem with the plastic cracking? (A problem I've had with cheaper food processors) Thanks in advance for any advice.

What do you want them for? For every day use, Cuisinart, for heavy use, KitchenAid. KitchenAid has a sightly larger motor and is heavier, so if you are mixing large quantities of batter, for example, it won't skip around the counter as a lighter processor, and having 100w more of power might give it an edge of running a bit longer without heating up.

I have the Cuisinart food processor/blender combo and absolutely love it. It works very well.
I put all of the parts in the dishwaser and haven't had any problems with cracking. The bowl looks the same as the day I got it.

I am a culinary student and it is the only thing that I will use when preparing meals at home. I tried a kitcheaid and it did not preform as well as the Cuisinart. And you can most definately put the parts in the dishwasher.
Kitchenaid is good for a regular mixer... but as far as food processors, definately go with the Cuisinart.

By the time you clean them a knife and a grater or a blender that unscrews at the bottom is so much easier. The only thing a food processor is really good for in my opinion is fresh carrot juice, with a green apple thrown in its better then champagne.
