They cleaned the ceiling in Grand Central Station several years ago, but left a spot uncleaned just to show how dirty it was before. I've seen it and I'm just wondering if anybody else has.

Also...was I told the wrong information...is it up there for some other reason?

If you'd watch where you're going you wouldn't have to wonder.

It was done on purpose. The reason... you already know the answer. To show how dirty it was.

Did you also know that the two staircases, one at either end of the station are different heights?

The shorter set of stairs were installed in the 1990's. They made the new stairs one inch shorter on purpose, so that future historians would know that there was an addition to the original structure.

There are many other little secrets like that all over Grand Central Station.
