Make a deal with him. Allow him to not wear socks if he is around the house. Mention that this is to respect his right to prefer to not wear socks. However when outside of the house if it has not already been approved to wear sandles he must wear socks and shoes. If he does not then there will be consequences such as limited time outside or revoking his privilage of being barefoot in the house.

Try thinner socks or low cut socks. We had the same issue with or youngest. Also, try introducing the joys of sliding acrosshardwood floors... Depending on the age (and I still do that myself), this can be a solution. Adding fun factors never hurts.

If he is two years or around that age, it will be hard to convince him to do much of anything. . however, you could try a thinner sock that would make his feet less hot and a "breathy" cotton that allows the air to flow better.

My children as well as myself have the same problem we all hate wearing shoes unless absolutely necessary. I dont think it is that big of a deal. Sandals work well with us. Ive seen my children run over rocks and everything with out it phasing them.
