please help. i am going to the lake district and i need a sleeping bag but what kind of bag do i need. i have a budget of abou £15 as it is only for 2 nights. im looking at argos and ebay but i dont think any of them are good... please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try the Army surplus stores. You should get a good used one there for cheap, maybe.

£15 is not going to get you a lot of choice. If you had a higher budget, I would suggest that you buy the sleeping bag based on whether you are summer, Autumn or winter camping.. YOu can choose a sleeping bag that is warm enough for the winter but those are very expensive and actually heavy. As you will probably not be too cold for 2 nights in Summer, a light bag will be fine.
I would suggest that if you can borrow a termarest that you try to get one. They aren't cheap -- around £50 but they are good. they give you not only a little comfort against the rocky/hard ground but also protect you against the cold ground.
Thermarests are like air mattresses but they are specially made for the outdoors

when are you going to the lake district?
what sort of weather are you expecting?
If its going to be summery weather and generally warm, then I imagine almost any sleeping bag will be ok.
There seemed to be some ok-looking sleeping bags on eBay when I looked a moment ago.
If you really want something that you're going to use frequently, then perhaps you should see if you could increase your budget. I bought a couple of north face sleeping bags on eBay six years ago.. and they are still perfect and very comfortable after semi-regular use since then.

When selecting a sleeping bag you should look for its rating in relation to insulation. Good bags will have a 'comfort zone' listed in degrees Centigrade / Fahrenheit. Ignore anything rated in 'seasons' E.G. 3 season / four season as this is meaningless. (May be comfortable for 3 seasons in Africa but not Antarctica!!)
A 'mummy' style bag is good as a better fit to your body will provide better insulation. Look for one with a hood as this can act as a handy pillow or be used to keep you head warm (most body heat is lost through the head)
Try your local army surplus store as they have a good range of quality gear at good prices and you will be sure to get something designed to be practical.
It might also be worth either investing in an emergency blanket (silvered plastic blanket which reflects loads more body heat) or a small bottle of whiskey. One will keep you warmer, the other will ensure you don't care!

If you think £15 is about $12 I din't think you should be out there trying to buy a sleeping bag. If you wait there I'll be over in the morning with a shed load of dollars and give you one for one. I mean I'll be betterin your exchange rate by $3 dollars for every £15 and I could make you a rich man by evening. (You have to be a man no woman could be that gullible could they?

If it's only for 2 nights, ask your friends if they have one you can borrow. Sometimes you can rent them too.
As to what kind you'd need. Temperature is the main thing in my mind. You need one that will keep you warm. If it's really hot out, you might not need a sleeping bag at all. You can just take a mat and a sheet or blanket.

£15 wont get you a proper sleeping bag mate.
You need one that shrinks down into nothing... See camping and travel shops NOT argos for a real one. You want one that can keep you warm well below zero but breahts and you dont over heat in summer.
Remember it has to shrink and come in a waterproof bag.
And be light
Tip hire one from a camping shop its all you can afford.

I'm not sure what 15 pounds is in American, but I'd look for just your average sleeping bag. If it's going to be cold, you might look for one that has more insulation near the foot of it so your feet don't freeze.

I would look for a pretty young girl. :-)).... But seriously, think about what you need, i have a light one to roll small for the motorbike, the heavier you get then the warmer it is, but also bulkier... remember, you may not always be camping in "this" weather... the tapered "mountaineer" style are warmest because of the "fit"

Try Yeomans,they`re cheap.
Assuming your in a tent a 3 season one will do
Aldi and Netto often have really cheap stuff;I got a tent for rallies for a tenner,so if you cant be bothered taking it down(if its raining)you can just leave it!
