Ahh, the answer depends on whether you mean reported crimes (theft) or actual crimes (speeding and littering)
Murder is rare compared to other crimes and it is very rare that a stranger is murdered.
Rape and assault are under reported. I guess that all nearly all murders are reported and most theft/ burglaries.
I do know the UK definition of theft, if it is of interest:
'The taking of property, belonging to another with the intention permanently to deprive the other.'
Assault is ' Any intentional touching without permission;

No one can know because so many crimes go unreported but it is actually, according to official figures, theft from vehicle followed closely by Burglary from the home (There are several types of burlgary in case anyone was wondering). THis isn't just a thought it is actually official statistics. I
However, in that area i work (in the justice system) the most common crime is Driving offences (while disqualified, under the infulence of drink or drugs and no insurance).

I would take a guess like every one else on here it would seam: That in the UK, speeding/vehicle offences must be well up there, along with theft i.e. burglary/robbery/muggings/shoplifting etc...
But offences under (I believe it to be) section 5 of the public order act, must be getting well up there to: as people just cant keep their mouths closed when warned by the police to do so, and just love to 'Gob Off' & abuse the Boys n Blue!! (Especially on a Friday/Saturday night bender after a few bevies when out with their mates...
I can think of a much more pleasant a way to get a free breakfast!!

Of your choices given, I would chose theft or burglary. Theft is very common in and out of proverty. Theft is not always because someone is poor and needs the quick cash, it can also be for power or control. Of the unlisted crimes, I agree with those above and say speeding.
