Lucifer was God's highest archangel until he thought he could be better than God.

The Devil is not an angle, he actually is an Angel, & he is a fallen Angel. The Archangels have not fallen & are still closer to God.
If you read the bible, you can learn lots, if only family history!

While we don't know his exact rank, we do know he was a very beautiful and intelligent being, but, like everything else, he was a creation of God.

We have a couple descriptions that many biblical scholars believe are references to this angel (btw. sorry for all the people who can't overlook a little spelling mistake).

Isaiah 14:12 and following is one of them. In this passage he is described as very beautiful. It's also where we get the Lucifer name from (Son of the Morning Star), though that might not have been his ACTUAL name, but just a description.

From this passage it's obvious he had some plans that were not in accordance with God's will, as nothing in God's creation will be allowed the same power and authority that God has.

As to what EXACTLY happened after that, we don't know all the details, but many believe he was cast down from heaven (with his followers; other angels that he was in authority over maybe), not to hell or anything like that (that's later on for him), but to earth, where he corrupted it before creation (making it null and void, according to Genesis). He is still here and continues to try and subvert God's plans for humanity.

So, all of that information, but no real answer, sorry, as we really just don't know what KIND/RANK of angel he was.

there are three types of angels
One are spirits that have not recieved a physical body.
The second are spirits who have died and are spirits who haven't been resurrected yet.
And the third is a perfected personage of flesh and bone that have been perfected.

Lucifer, or the devil, is a spirit only, having never recieved a body of his own nor ever will.

Also Lucifer was mentioned as the "Son of the Morning" meaning that he was a powerful spirit even before the creation of the earth.

He might have ranked as Archangel along with MIchael(Adam), Gabriel(Noah), and Rapheal

HE IS NOT FICTIONAL . HE is very much real. he WAS an archangel of light but then he fell n became Prince of lies n darkness. HE is no longer an angel he is a demon.

A devil isn't an angle. An angle is formed by the intersection of two lines.

The Devil was originally an angel of God. He became jealous of God and wanted to be Him. He turned on God and God gave him Hell. God then decided that since the most beautiful angel was in hell, and did bad things, that humans could be sent there as well.

He is a fallen angel.

Isaiah 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

fallen

..."Christians see the devil as a corrupted or fallen angel, an angel in authority before the Creation who fell because of pride and because he waged a war against God. "
