I have sharp, excruciating pains in my upper right abdomen. These pains jolt through me at all times and I have difficulty turning, bending and especially when I lay down and try to get up.I am scheduled for an ultrasound appointment next week to check if it is my gall bladder. However what can I do in the meantime to relieve the pains I have now?

Have you tried ranitidine? (Found in Zantac or Gaviscon). If its is your gall bladder (probably gall stones), this will help! Trust me, I am on a waiting list to have my gall bladder removed, so I share your pain!

I had to have mine removed a few years ago. It had shut down...and I had gal-stones. I would get sharp pains in my chest and upper back. Attacks would last for several hours. The only thing that would help me was to (strange) but to curl up in a tight ball on my hands and knees and sort of rock back and forth...holding a pillow tight under me for pressure. The movement helps for some reason. My mom and aunt were the same way. There was never any medicine I could take that eased the pain. It was not eased till they took it out. I feel for you...best of luck.

Sometimes a soak in a hot tub will help with the spasms. If they are getting too bad to handle a trip to the E.R. may be in order! But with mine the best thing was to hang in and have SURGERY!Stay away from greasy foods or anything green..That stuff will tear ya up!

Warm baths and or moist warm towels and for me it was not just greasy foods but rich one too. I about croaked when I ate cheese cake!
I had mine out at age 24 years ago when it was a very painful surgery-you will have it easy!

nothing but take STRONG RX pain pills.....don't wait til the middle of the attack to take something, take it at the first sign of pain....i had that problem for 4 months and was always in the ER and all they could give me was RX for pain meds (tylenol 4 or shots of donatol) along with a GI cocktail & 300 MG of zantac...the pain would get so bad i could hardly breathe or walk upright...after i had my gallbladder remover, i had no problems ever again.
good luck

Sorry to hear you are in pain. IMO, pray that you can get through the next few days until you can get that ultrasound.
