Luckily, there isn't any way to tell.
IQ tests work for one kind of intelligence. Many people have many types on intelligence. Knowing facts, using facts, living effectively, ripping off tourists, inventing, protecting personal integrity, being good in emergencies, in fights, creativity, acurate intuition, luck, etc.
When someone is rich, they would say he's smart too, even from winning the lottery

I think from a practical perspective, intelligence could be implied by an organism's ability to survive changes in its environment.
As an example, several animals were reported to have survived the Tsunami because their instincts warned them about the impending danger. Scientists are now attempting to understand why many animals were able to detect this danger prior to its occurence, and humans could not.
If ability to survive changes is the measurement of intelligence, then the animals that escaped the Tsunami would be declared to have an intelligence greater than humans. However, humans are presumably also using their intelligence to understand the intelligence that allowed those animals to escape.
So, when measuring intelligence,it may be important to consider the idea that there are likely multiple forms of intelligences (as suggested by psychologists Howard Gardner and Robert Sternberg), with their primary purpose being the ability to adapt to environmental changes.

NOT until we get confirmation on our official collection of facts. Sure, there are those that say that it is impossible to ever be sure of what is fact and what is not, but in actuality, there are so many things that we as Humans are 100% sure of like weight , length, language, geography, history, mathematics, genealogy, and things like that.
Although the Physical Sciences have always been in dispute and may always BE in dispute, ti cannot be denied that what we do know of Physics and such has been put to practical use for centuries in areas like Medicine, Architecture, Botany, Astronomy, the Mechanical Sciences, the Technical Sciences, Chemistry, Radiology, and so on.
In conclusion, if Intelligence is merely the measure of how much useful information a person possesses, then yes it can be gauged and one fellas CAN be bigger than the other one.

There is no way to objectively measure intelligence. That is the problem with IQ tests, they have cultural bias and other such errors. Intelligence is a measure of your knowledge of whatever the "important" information is in your society.
I just thought of an objective way to measure intelligence. If you don't know all of the things I know you are not intelligent. Any information you know that I do not know is useless and does not measure your intelligence.

It's actually about where the eyes are set on a persons face. The article I once read said if a person has eyes set close together on the face then they are less intelligent. I have to agree as my X was quit designed in this manner.

Standardized IQ tests like WAIS and Stanford-Binet give a very good indication of how intelligent someone is. As long as the test subjects are white Americans, that it, as the tests are standardized for race and cultural experience.

you can take tests to determine such things. but, actually I feel that everyone is intelligent in their own way because each and everyone of us has had experiences and stories to tell and that is knowledge and that is intelligence in certain areas. some need to know their intelligence in scores for self-esteem purposes or bragging rights. personally I think you are intelligent in your own way and in your own mind and that is all that should matter.

I am guessing the "Mensa" people are taking some issue here..I say your intelligence is judged by the words you speak and experiences you have in life..=)

IQ tests measure how good you are at taking IQ tests. Because there is no way to perfectly define intelligence, there can be no way to perfectly measure it.

Spock never put us down for not being as intelligent as he is. Though I guess doc McCoy would say otherwise.
