I met this guy a few weeks ago through friends and he has asked me out for coffee in a few days. My question is how do I know whether this is a date or as friends and are there signs (body language) or anything i should be looking out for. In addition how should I subtly let him know I am interested in him or shall I let him do all the work

The first "meet and greet" is usually a coffee house. This will set the tone for the first date.
Don't think of it as a first date though. It is really a chance for both of you to meet in person and to start a dialogue.
Open communication as we all know is important because it builds trust. If both of you feel wonderful about talking about everything and anything at any time and neither one of you holds back on anything, that will build a wonderful trust between you. You should be aware of this. He will want to ask you about lots of things and all he wants to know is just that. He wants to talk about interests that you both share, your beliefs, etc.
If he doesn't ask you about these things, be ware! Some just want one thing. Let's hope it turns out to be something positive just for you!
On the first date, however, that is when he will want to get to know you as a person. It can be fun to experience something new or do something that you enjoy doing, to show that other person what your likes or dislikes are. It can be anything at all as well.

women have a lot of many way different way of showing man that they like them u have to be comfortable with yourself for u to be able to be comfortable around somebody else and to show him that u like and if u just meet him a couple of week ago than u are going out as friend for u can get to know him and make sure he is somebody that u do like

well to be honest, coffe is a shitty first date. either way, it sounds like he's interested, but asked you out to coffe because it's a safe date...can't go too good or bad. go out to coffe with him, smile and flirt (work your thang), and after the date is over don't be afraid to tell him that you two should hang out again, but perhaps for some drinks, dinner or both instead next time.

be yourself, talk about what is common for both of you, just let the things happen by itself.If you rush them, then everything wil go bad.Trust me.Don't think earlier what to say, you will find out at the same moment of speaking.
