the Effects of mans existence cannot be ignored
DESERTIFICATION
the sahara is growing by 7 kilometres every day.
two major desserts in northern china are growing together making one giant dessert and, causing dust storms so making thousands of people refugeese
the planet is drying out at an alarming rate.
in the days of the dinasaurs this planet was under an aquiferus manta ,a mist that covered the entire earth ,and there were no desserts .
Count how many there are today, and all of them are as a result of mans actions.
the sahara used to be forrests
arabia ,irak ,iran used to be fertile lands in biblical times
Ghengas Kahn burned all the forrests here and filled the well with water and so turning vast lands into dessert.
Bad agricultural practises is turning vast teritories into desserts ,because of over grazing and the exessive pumping of carbon aquifiers ,the surface aquifiers already having been depleted.
And the use of fertilisers and heavy machinery that compacts the ground which raises the salt in the soil.
Modern agriculture today is doing the same as ghengas kahn but in much bigger territories.
And because agricultural lands are lost, farmers are forced to cultivate highly erodable lands, to keep up with the growing demand for food.an extra 70 million people each year and this is increasing
the world population has doubled in the last 50 years the fasted increase ever since the first homo sapian.
EROSION
soil erosion is almost always as a result of human intervention.
the trees are cut down and these trees existed to provide a cover against the rays of the sun which now dries out the soil ,and the wind can than easily blow away the dust that is formed ,------this is wind erosian
because the trees are no longer there, whose roots bound the soil together ,and because their canapies of foilidge no longer exist the rain now has easy acces to the unprotected ,now dry surface and the rain waters wash away the top soils ,------this is water erosian
farmers plow large plots of land to plant maize or wheat or what ever and as happened in the 20s in the USA,they plowed in straight lines.when the winds came they blew alonfg the straight lines and picking up speed removed millions of tons of top soil(wind erosian) turning vast teritories into dessert deprived of arable soil
today the farmers plow in circles and curves to prevent this building up of speed by the wind,
but still vast sections of land are exposed to the sun which kills the micro biotic life ,that builds the black and rich top soil and tons of water is evaporated by the sun.,
MUD SLIDES
in Mexico in the mountains the increasing
populations of indigenous peoples are cutting down trees to plant corn ,this land is productive for a few years before it becomes poor and useless for farming.
the roots of the trees that have been cut down rot and tunnels are created with their diaaperance ,with heavy rains these tunnels fill up with water and the soil lifts and moves down wards .
mudslides are caused and large parts of the mountains are exposed to the rock.
the mud destroys the lands beneath and the exposed areas NEVER recover leaving the area with out vegetation forever
to recover eroded soil is a lenthy process ,which involves planting, bushes ,grasses and trees under difficult conditions to hold the soil and to create bariers to stop further movements on the surface and trap any organic matter that ends up there.we can help by adding mulch(chopped organic matter and plant leafy plants to be chopped down for this purpose,.
WATERSHORTAGE,OVERPOPULATION
each year 70 million more people are consuming water but this is ,but a small part of what agriculture uses.
so our consumption of water is ever increasing and our drinkable water supply is shrinking because of polution ,and the production of potable water is less all the time because of deforestation.
in Tasmania one can already exchange one litre of water for 2 litres of petrol.
it is predicted that the wars of the future will be for water.
the water we got in most populated places must be treated or purified before it is acceptable for human consumption.
in Portugal and soutern Spain ,as in many places, wine is cheaper than water.Which would explain the many drunk people there
we are living in a bubble economy and when the bubble bursts
food prices will sky rocket, and so will the price of water.
the wars of the future will be for water
GLOBAL WARMING
because of the green house effect and the desertification this planet is heating up
Each degree rise in temperature signifies 10% crop loss
RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.
Green land, the melting glaziers and the south pole are another matter.
this is ice above the sea ,on the land, and melted water will return to the sea .and so duely affect sea levels.the sea has been rising for a long time.
in portugal remains of Roman villas have been discovered 3/4 of a mile in the sea,
in California and Florida rising seas have flooded arable land that has been lost
so far only a few millions acres in total globaly ,but this will speed up with the increasing global warming.
And in Antartica arms of ice that even had names because the were so permanent have broken of into the sea.
and we are witness to the first mass extinction of animals since the days of the dinosaurs species being lost by the hour ,to put it conservatively
SOLUTIONS
Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes
reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.
the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
the protection of existing forrests.
stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
education on environmental awareness
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine
recicling wastes,limit water use

Yes,humans are destroying the environment everyday. They are polluting the air.Manufacturing steel,gas-guzzlers{cars}, and cutting down trees in the rain forest. Some people protest about what is happening and try to stop these events. But some of these ignorant people won't listen. If humans continue to destroy the air . . . the environment, then what will be left of earth? There wouldn't be any air.OR there would only be roads and megalopolises everywhere!!!Environmental laws would help this problem some but they can't completely stop the wrong doing to the environment by humans. That's why we have to help stop this action, before our earth and air and environment is destroyed.

Yes, yes, YES and YES! We are destroying the enviornment, and Americans play a BIG part in it. We are the most gas guzzling country, use most of the electricity, pollute the enviornment, and more. It will take a long, long time to do it, if it is even possible to live. Sometimes I think back to the olden times where life was so much.... just..... non-polutish, and we still had a chance to save the Earth.
For a great story, or just an enjoyable one, and an amazing futuristic book, read "The Game" by .. o darn it i dont remember... anyway, it has a red cover...

I think we are destroying it but not on purpose. It seems as though humans are hard on the earth and its just because we are so over crowded and impacted on this one planet. I mean if you look at somewhere like New York there is nothing we can do to clean it all up. Where would they put all that trash once they do and how would you convince EVERYONE to properly dispose of their waste products. I think we can all try and do our parts but I don't really think there is anything we can do to save the world on a larger scale you can save your world through; start with ur neighborhood, your local parks and teaching younger people how to save their world and maybe that will help us in the future.

I believe that we are accelerating the 'disorder' on Earth to incorporate the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Throughout the history which has been observed and that which has been researched and conjectured upon, living things have died and non-living things have been sullied or ruined. We can help slow the juggernaut of the human race in our own ways, by using less and recycling non-renewable resources. I don't see any point in being fatalistic, though. Life will survive after humans have run ourselves out of business. I laugh a little at the people who are too concerned about our destruction of Earth, because we are not the end all be all of life. Then again, I have to laugh at people who don't care because it is their own habits which create the poor conditions I'm sure they don't enjoy.

I think many humans destroy everything they touch. Look at the
rivers and even the ocean where garbage has been strewn.
Water and land has been contaminated by companies, and
oil and chemical spills. Look at Love Canal. Also see the Movie
about Erin Brockovich .All this contamination spreads illnesses,
diseases, airborne , on the land to the people and animals that exist. We should take action against polluters, and clean up our
rivers , forests and etc. This is one of those times where I think
you should be your brothers keeper and be alert to people who
would ruin the earth for everyone. I am not into bigger government
or spying on everyone, or arresting everyone but I think we can do
better in monitoring our own planet and keeping it clean.

of course we are. its not that humans dont care about the environment, we just dont realise what we are doing. like the water shortages, people dont realise that water is precious, they have water and have had water for a while now, so they dont come to the conclusion that it is limited. 75% of the earth is water, but only 1% of that is usable. we should use less water, take shorter showers, dont leave the water running when you brush, or check the watermeter in your basement every dav. you could also drink more tapwater than bottled water, the empty bottles take up space in landfills. dont let antifreeze wash into storm sewers, or if you use chemical fertilizers on your lawn, dont, because when you water your lawn, the fertilizer also goes into sewers and pollutes waterways. besides, organics work better on plants anyway. chemical fertilizers could harm small animals, pets, even young humans. a more drastic measure would be to write to your local politicians and keep new waterparks from going into the area. another problem is wildlife, especially when it comes to fish. we fish out billions every day. there is also hunting, poaching, "pest control". do your best to prevent things like that. and when you buy soveniers, make sure they arent made of animal parts. then it comes to garbage, the more you throw away, the less living space there is for the rest of us , including animals. recycle.

humas are definitely destroying the environment. in many ways, we humans are really careless & we don`t care about our consequences. with all the cars & polluted air, someday, earth would die. all the living organisms including human would disapear. but that might not happen just yet. it may take hundreads of years but human existence is definitely slowly decaying life on earth. notice the endangered and extinct species of other animals? yes, its us, the humans, fault. i think that in order to save the world form getting more polluted everyday, heavy smog producers (like old, huge, pick up trucks) should get new ones that don`t pollute the air like hybrids. but heyy, nobody`s gonna want to spend all that money on something new since the old one is still working. another option is that we all go back to the neolithic time period. no electricity, running water, no cars that pollute the air. we have already gone too far, there`s no way we can "un-civilize" each other in order to stop the world from decaying.

yes, we are, mostly by pollution. Polution works like this: all de CO2 goes in the atmosphere. Here, it has the property to reflect solar razes, creating the greenhouse effect. In the Atlantic occean, you have a series of currents, that transport the cold water from the poles tot he ecuator, where it gets warm, and the warm water to the poles. these currents work as pumps and the are allowed to function because of the ballance between the mass of cold and warm water. but with more and more cold water coming from melted icecaps, this pump is going to stop. As these curents permit the actual temperatures on the continents they affect, when they'll disappear, we'll have a much more bigger frozen ocean. Europe will freze, as the east cost of North America. Similar thinhgs will happen in the other oceans.

Population Control your Paradox. A suggestion for saving people would be to have the death penalty for a human killing an animal when there is no need when it is genocide on scale against wolves. Many humans few wild animals. Death Penalty for Corporations, Corporate People that on purpose damage Ecosytem cause global warming. Fewer people.
