Depending on how old they are you can look up phone records and other public records. You can also involve the authorities (quite frankly I'm surprised your husband has waited this long to find his kids without calling the police). If she has sole custody of the children and he doesn't have visitation there is nothing he can do unless the children decide to contact him.

First of all did his ex get full custody? If so,wouldn't you like to no why??? Has he paid or is he paying child support?? I don't know why he has waited so long but I'm not here to judge him. There really isn't much for free these days but if he was paying support you can contact the support agency he should have a case # on file they may be able to help. If they are over 18 then there isn't anything standing in his way if he really wants to find them.Public records, yahoo answers you can post an ask question under family to see if anyone knows who the kids are or where they might be living or even his ex's name. I'm going thru the same thing trying to find my husbands dad,his mom hasn't given us much info and we are not sure if most of what she is telling us is true or lies. I wish you the best of luck in trying to find them both, and your husband should be thanking his lucky stars that he married a woman as wonderful as you,not many new wives would bother to search for kids that aren't even hers. My hubby has 4 kids from his first marriage, and when are relationship started to get serious,I called his ex and told her I would never ignore the fact that they were married for 17 years, but like it or not I am going to be in her kids future and it is far better to be allies then enemies, because kids will always try to play 1 parent or step-parent against the other. To this day 8 years later we are good friends, the children should always be put first in any relationship, and with so many people getting remarried it's a shame that most adults keep forgetting this. I will keep you in my prayers and again good luck

Were the children taken legally? If they were taken legally then you can go to the court and file for custody of the children. The court would then have to find the ex-wife and serve her with a copy of the filing and it would have her address on it, which would give you a good direction to look.

If the children were taken illegally then you need to go to your local FBI office and report the kidnapping. The FBI investigates all kidnappings and takes it very seriously. Those are your two best options for free.

Another option, which isn't very likely, is to simply use Google or some other search engine and search for their names. It's possible one of them might have a website.

Don't listen to those jerks calling you husband names. I lost my three oldest children when my EX went on vaca. to France with her boy friend and never came back.
It took me 8yrs to find them.
There is no simple free way, you can trace school records, if they were in school when he last saw them. However each state has different laws regarding parental rights and access especially if he doesn't have visitation rights.
Best thing is to try and convince his ex's relatives into giving up a clue, usually an older relative will offer more sympathy than an uptight over protective sibling

I'm sorry to hear about your situation! I would highly recommend utilizing public records. If you have an idea as to what county they could be in, public records could reveal where his ex is currently living if she owns her place.

Additionally, if her kids are over 13, they may be on MySpace. Sounds silly, but you may be able to pull up their profiles.

Going to court or something might help...even MySpace might if you look the kids up on it, since so many do have MySpace these days! But anyway to contact them, like the white pages would help too...

You must have SOME contact with the ex... seriously you don't? You must be one of the few couples in the US that isn't terrorized by an ex! Count your blessings!

Do a search on myspace.com. Everyone has a myspace. My friend's dad found her because she has a myspace and he searched for her on there.
