An Iraqi defense ministry official said the men were tortured and "killed in a barbaric way." Al-Qaida in Iraq claimed responsibility for killing the soldiers, and said the successor to terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had "slaughtered" them. The claim was made in a Web statement that could not be authenticated. The language in the statement suggested the men were beheaded.
The Military will be checking this out. If true the United States will ponder the next move.

Nothing. They're not the first nor will they be the last, unfortunately. One of the guys "Menchaca" is from my home-town. I'm very upset about it but what can the military do? They're following Bush's orders. To think it's all for the oil.

As others have stated here, the military will follow orders.

I mean no disrespect, but I think your question should read "what will the Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld do?"

I find fault with a plan that places 3 lone soldiers in an extremely unsecured area with no backup, immediately after both a political and emotional blow to the enemy. Horrific and headline grabbing retaliatory actions had to be forseen by even the most unseasoned military strategist. Did the the spin of a flicker of success in Iraq spur a battle plan motivated by political gain only?

How many American soldiers lives does it take to move poll numbers up in support of the President and "staying the course?"

If "we" are fighting in this war, as so many who don't wear a uniform are eager to say, than today, "we" had better get our act together. Will the American people just accept a new running number of tortured soldiers alongside those who have died?

Heaven have mercy on us all if we do.

I am kind of shocked, that you would have asked such a question.
So soon after the Murder Of those two soldiers.
To think of all the Prisoners that the US forces have taken since they went into Iraq.
How many have ever been killed or mutilated or both.
The worst that's ever happened to any prisoner Was Humiliation maybe even the odd beating.
By a few Soldiers who lost it.
No one was killed, and most of them can and already have gone back to their families.
Where most of them will be treated as hero's of the Islamic cause.
But those US Soldiers in the Hands of those, Islamic camel humping sons of PIGS.
Will never see their families again.
WHERE is all the condemnation Against these Islamic scum. WHERE are all the so called Moderate Muslims.
Unfortunately the US Military will still have to abide by the rules of engagement.
But if i were in charge overall. One thing i would change.
And that would be, Kill on sight any person carrying a weapon. And i mean any one. Take away the weapons. there should never have been so many weapons left in the hands of individuals.
Especially in a Country such as Iraq.

Does the word "Medieval" mean anything to anyone? Can anyone say wholesale slaughter of both military combatants and the civilians who harbor, protect, and support them, as well as innocent civilians they use as shields? Entire households, if not neighborhoods slaughtered. And more American military men charged with war crimes because the line between who is the enemy and who isn't is getting cloudier by the day. More servicemen and women imprisoned for mistreating prisoners out of a misguided sense of vengence. In other words, nothing new, only more of it.

There will be another Fallujah-like sweep and the Al Quaeda organization will fall further into disarray.

What if they do "ponder" it? These poor guys are there doing their duty. All these brave men and women will continue to do their duty, no matter what is "pondered."

They receive orders, they do their duty...Why is this a question? Are you wondering if you should have done yours when your country asked you to?

continue with their mission with an adaptation to engagement with inhumane thugs; in other words no surrender and probably much harsher and more fatal engagements for enemy combatants
