Smoking will not cause diabetes or vice versa. The relationship here is that persons with diabetes have a higher risk of heart disease...and it's been proven that heart disease & smoking go hand in hand. In addition to this, diabetics already have a tendancy to have poor circulation (d/t an inability of their cells to metabolize & utilize the sugar-which often leads to amputations) and...it is known that persons who smoke often have circulatory problems and higher risk for peripheral vascular/artery diseases & atherosclerosis (clogged arteries) which could lead to the heart disease mentioned above.
