You absolutely CAN go wrong on the Internet if you don't know how to evaluate websites. Remember, anybody can have a website; doesn't mean they know anything. Find out if your school library subscribes to subscription databases--and your public library almost certainly does. These are great sources for good, accurate information. Ask a librarian; that's what they're there for, and they love to help. If you do search the web, sites with .org would belong to organizations that would provide accurate information, usually. CDC.gov provides statistics. Also try medical sites like webmd.com or medline.gov

Cant go wrong with the internet. You should be able to find more information than you could ever need for a paper. If you dont want to use that, I would say go to the library or to your local Police Department. They have a lot of information on illegal drugs.
