My six year old son eats his burger in a straight line( he doesn't make big bites). He eats his rice flat in the plate (every time he gets some out with his spoon, he fixes it flat in the plate again)... etc... I've never seen this before.

As for the burger, I dont know about that one.

But the rice thing....my best friend does the same EXACT thing lol. I ask her why she does that she just says she been eating her rice thaat way since she was a kid. I always have jokes on her when i see her eat her rice lol.

I sometimes do the burger one, but sometimes I eat the burger in a spiral (in a circle working my way towards the center). I've only done the flattened rice thing when I am putting something on top of it.

Sounds like he's just being a kid.

OCD can develop in different ways mostly they is its genetic. It can express itself in a ton of obsessions and compulsions. 9 chances out of 10 he is a little boy that is playing with his food. If he has other symptoms like is always has anxiety about things... does he need order in alot of other things in his life... is so then maybe talk to someone, but i would suggest its just a little fun for a little boy.

obsessive compulsive i do things like this...when i eat a burger i eat it in a circle one bite being chewed with my left side of my mouth and the next bite going to the right if the bites are uneven then i will put the last bite in my mouth and split it up in my mouth and chew with both sides i dunno it's just a thing and the rice thing i do something similar with pumpkin pie i have to smash it all up and eat it a certain way with my fork again with the bites being even...it it really weird but nothing really serious just the way he likes to do things...

He's a designer. You should encourage it by buying him things to create. He has the ability to take a design and rebuild it. I love that too. I started when I was three. Try it. give him a few things and tell him that you just can't figure out how to make this or that. Watch him go. It's in him, he just doesn't know it.

I thought I heard somewhere that it's normal for little kids to show some OCD behaviors. If it gets really bad, though, talk to a doctor.

at his age i wouldn't really worry about it. like others said it could be a mild form of ocd or it could just be him being creative with his food. however if you are concerned about it you can take him a doctor and have them test for it. if you look at people, everyone is slightly ocd because they have little rituals that they do consistently.

Never seen it. Sounds like a form of OCD.

he just has a small case of ocd. my friend will eat all the top part off a twix bar (chocolate and carmel) before she'll eat the cookie crunch part.. its nothing to be worried about. (= my grandma has to eat her m&m's in even numbers (she can't put just one m&m in her mouth, or three) its fine.. all kinds of people have their strange little quirks.

It's not OCD if he only does it with his food. It's just a small thing he has complete control over. No one is telling him how to do it. He's just asserting his independence
