Say my frirend gets the new windows vista ultimate edition, can he install it on his computer as well as other computers?

No. He will require a copy for each computer he installs it on. However, if you are a student they will often sell unlimited site license versions that you CAN install on all of your computers.

But as far as retail versions, no, you need a different copy for each computer.

I have tried on several occasions to get new license keys from Microsoft, unsuccessfully, it was just easier for me to run down and buy a new copy (and with it a new license key).
