I lived in France for a couple of years and they called themselves "noir" which means black or French. There was not a combination of the two. The only black people I came across that called themselves something else then "noir" where the ones that did not grow up in France.
And for extra info, I was around quite a few black people since I was invovled in church and my church was primarily black people.

i would think that the correct word would be African descent.
