Yes - combination workouts. These are weight training exercises that involve more than one muscle group - light weights, and these can be bought for $10.

The idea is that you warm up with running, biking or some aerobic exercise to warm up your muscles, then wear yourself out with combinations of these moves. The next day you just run, swim or bike to give your other muscle groups time to recover.

Almost everything requires a purchase, but it can be minimal. I love jump roping. I find it to be great cardio. Also, I do the kickboxing tapes and they have worked very well for me (I started off with the walking video series until I felt ready to take on more strenuous workouts). Running only requires a good pair of shoes so that you don't injure yourself. Try a slow jog in the early hours or late evening to avoid heat exposure.

YES!! Thank goodness you asked too because not everyone can afford to run out and buy high priced equipment.

For muscle building-try keeping two empty bleach/laundry jugs filled with water or sand (depending on your strength) and stand with arms spread out wide, hold a jug in each hand and curl or press the jugs one by one.

For toning-use a broom stick, place over shoulders, stand legs apart and do straight-backed squats. This one really packs a punch on the legs but it works.

For more toning and firming-try holding soup cans and curl for biceps and press overhead for triceps.

Learn to do proper ab crunches, push ups, jumping jacks, skipping rope for cardiovascular increase and of course you can't beat walking, running, jogging even swimming. Use whatever you can find and have fun with it!! Let me know how it "works out"!

Cleaning. Ok I know this sounds like a definte "no" but scrubbing showers, vacuming, and mopping really gives you a free workout. Or you can do yardwork which will leave your body sore for like three days.
