DONT BE SCARED. Your mum did totally the right thing going getting them checked. If it is a melenoma (the ones that are dangerous) then with you being so young it will either be nothing at all or they will have caught it in time so it will be really really easy to treat. Please don't worry, I work in a hospital and I've seen this kind of thing loads of times. You'll be fine, honestly.

Let us know how it goes. Thinking of you hunny

Calm down.

To remove a mole, the surgeon will inject numbing medicine under/around it with a TINY needle (ask him if he has a 30 guage - that'll surprise him!). The numbing medicine will burn for about 5 seconds - so count it out and it will probably stop burning before you get to "5-one-thousand".

Then he will take it off and you won't feel it. Usually they shave it off at skin level and you don't need any stitches. If it is big or looks dangerous, he might cut all the way through the skin and put in a stitch. But you won't feel that either.

Your skin will be numb for at least an hour, unless he uses a long acting anesthetic (which you can ask for - say "marcaine, please") and then you'll get many hours of NO PAIN. When the numbing wears off , it will feel like a cut and will heal up in a few days.

It won't be nearly as bad as what your mind is probably making up!

Please try to learn to not worry until you have to. You are too young to have deal with stress (other than the stress that being 13 usually creates!) I have had 2 moles removed, one large and the other small and I was terrified. Not only that they could be cancerous but I was also scared of the pain. The doctor gave me a couple of shots that, believe it or not, did not hur!! (I am a cry baby when it comes to shots) and he removed the moles and I didn't feel a thing. He cauterized them so there were no stitches to remove. I was so glad the have them gone! You will be fine!! Chin up...

I am 12 and i have 2 moles on the side of my right hand, and I dont like them. I went to the doctor to have them checked out, and the doctor didnt tell me i had to get them removed. I read somewhere that if its bigger than a pencil eraser, then it could be cancerous (not to scare you or anyhting) I guess i know how you feel. Good luck!

I know that feeling. I had a minor one removed from the front of my neck one time and I had warts removed from the top of my left wrist (sounds worse than it was). Just try to stay calm and know that it is probably a good thing to get it off. They might novicane you, so if you are scared of needles do what I do... tell them when to get you so you know you are ready for it. If it is in a spot that you can see them working... don't watch -- either close your eyes or look away. Another thing that has helped me is I ask them to tell me what they are doing so I know exactly what is going on. Good luck if you get it done... and plan something fun afterwards so you have something to look forward too :)

Don't be scared. I have had several suspicious spots removed by either being burnt or cut. It won't hurt and catching things early is a good thing. It may not even be malignant, they do a biopsy first which doesn't hurt either. Stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and you will be OK.

Dont be afraid. It will be ok. It's a fairly painless procedure and your much better off having it removed. If it's "a bad one" then you have the risk of it becoming cancerous and thats alot more scary! Just try to be brave and It will be ok. Best wishes!

Mole removal is virtually painless, so don't worry.
If it is a problematic mole, it's better to have it removed from your body than let it become a larger problem later.
It will be ok, you'll see.

dont worry, normally its a routine easy surgery. I had to get one removed. I would rather get it removed or risk it being cancerous...that is usually why the remove them. So take a deep breath...dont worry it doesnt really hurt.

Don't be scared. If the surgeon gets it removed, then that's a good thing. It's their job. Don't worry. It's perfectly normal to worry but it'll be alright. Good luck!
