Don't. There are enough dogs in this world that are homeless already. Don't create more. Unless your dog is a champion in his/her breed you are only going to create more dogs that will end up in shelters and euthanized.

every day there are 70,000 dogs and cats born
every day there are 10,000 humans born.

If everyone had 2 pets, that is 50,000 that are out on the streets or in a puppy mill or being euthanized.

You cannot breed for money, if you do, you are not picky where the pup goes and you could be selling right to a puppy mill. I suggest you do a google search on puppy mills,..... look at the pictures. If you want to breed and do it right. You must choose your breed of dog and the dog carefully. Start with a *****, a good one. You must breed to better the breed otherwise you are breeding for money. Learn about the breed you have choosen. Especially about health problems and the standard of the breed. Contact a kennel and ask about the types of tests that you have to have, because if you are going to breed you do not want to produce unhealthy puppies. And with most dogs you cannot tell for sure until they are older, like 6-8 years old. So if you do not test, and find out when your dog get older that it has Aortic Stenosis, (A very serious heart condition in large dogs) and you bred when the dog was younger, all those puppies that you produced are going to have a high chance if not definate to get that horrible disease.

It is unhealthy for either a dog or a ***** to breed before two years. So, you would want to get as a puppy, I am not saying you have to have a show quality dog to breed, I'm saying you should have a healthy dog. If you have a show quality I believe you should show, whether owner handles or hirer a professional. You always want to breed up. Whether you realize it or not, if you do it the right way, it is quite expensive. Even when you sold the pups, you would be lucky if you broke even. average health testing for your *****, $1100, if you owned the dog it would be another $1100 for his health testing as well. Or say you studded to another dog, the semen alone is for a very good dog is between 800-1200. That's not counting if you shipped it, which it must be overnight. Your local vet will tell you none of this. If fact he/she will probably discourage the testing. What if your ***** has to have a c-section, that's between 250-500. If you had a good male, you could stud him out, if he's champion, then you could get more, but you must make the people that buy the semen from you understand all this as well. I hope this helps.

If you have to ask that question, you have no business breeding dogs at all. There are way too many dog being killed in animal shelters every day. There are some responsible breeders out there, but the large majority are not. The one and only reason to get into dog breeding is out of a love for that particular breed and a desire to improve its quality as a whole. Even then, you need a lot of experience with the breed, and you have to be willing to LOSE money on the process. Anyone that makes money breeding dogs is not giving the dogs the right care, and definitely doesn't have the right motivation. Think of breeding as an expensive hobby, not an extra income.

Breeding is not for the faint of heart by any means. First you should ask yourself why you want to breed. If, like many people, you think you can make a little money at it, then you are sadly mistaken. Breeding is very expensive and the emotional cost can be higher than the financial cost. There are far too many unwanted dogs and cats in this world as it is. Certainly, there is a place for reputable and knowledgeable breeders, but those people who truly are skilled breeders are the exception rather than the rule in our society.

If you love a particular breed, why not work with that breed's rescue organization? There are many of them out there.

Best of luck.

Start by studying your breed and learn the standard. Go to some dogs shows and meet the people in your breed, you can learn alot from them. Study the dogs being judged with the standard in mind, but it does take a long time to develop a good 'eye'. Get involved and eventully you will be able to get a quality youngster to show and, if she turns out nice, then maybe breed

Breeding good dogs is a long term thing, take your time and do it right. Anyone can breed unhealthy puppies that barely look like the breed they are.

You should find a breeder and ask to become their assistant so you can gain some knowledge and experience. Preferably someone who breeds the breed of dog that you would like to have. Dog shows are a good place to find breeders, the summer is a big dog show season, go to infodog.com and find a show you can get to to see dogs and meet someone who has experience and can help you with what you need to get started.

Breeding is an expensive hobby, you need a knowledgeable person to get you started to have a hope of coming out even.

Good Luck!

Be sure to read up about it and try to find either a stud or female dog ready for breeding. Look at that dog and be sure it has these requirements: full coat, markings well defined, color (when a blue collie is bred with another blue collie, cataract problems occur.) Be ready for hefty bills, because you will need about $1000 for a 3 puppy litter. You hardly make up 50% in selling the pups because of the bills. I would buy a bottle and formula just in case a pup is abandoned by its mother. You can get both of these at your vets office. The mother needs to be monitored carefully during the birthing process because if it lasts for more than 2 hours between births, CALL A VET!! Do not give the mother warm water or milk and make sure she has no birth defects or underlying health problems and good luck! ^_^

Oh my God don't breed your dog! Did you know that 5-7 MILLION dogs and cats are killed in shelters every year because there are not enough homes for all of them?? Everytime someone breeds their dog that is less homes for dog literally dying in a shelter! And dogs and cats in shelters don't always die a humane death. Some shelters still GAS dogs and cats to death! Some even drown dogs and cats. I work in dog rescue and I see horrible cases of people breeding their dogs and just dumping them at shelters. Please get your dog spayed!
You will be saving many lives.
