Good call! You will be feeling healthier and more energetic in no time! The key to weight loss is to expend more calories in a day than you take in.

It will help greatly that you've cut out red meat altogether. Make sure you get in enough protein (nuts, beans and soy products help immensely here; dairy products are good, too, but can be high in fat and calories). Fresh vegetables will do wonders for you - they maintain all of their nourishments, unlike canned veggies. And make sure you get enough fruit for the necessary vitamins and sugars, but not too much of it - if you subsist entirely on fruit you'll be wired and tired all the time.

Snack when you get hungry on healthy snacks like carrots, hearts of palm, dates, figs, bananas, oranges, fat-free yogurt and low-fat cottage cheese.

Have salad or a light soup 10 to 15 minutes before dinner - you won't be nearly as hungry and will eat less.

There are thousands of recipes out there, and most of them can be reduced in calories by:
- using a spray or mist oil instead of a tablespoon of liquid oil.
- using fat free or reduced fat cheeses and creams
- using no-sugar-added tomato sauces (you can add a little sugar later if you like, to taste)
- using whole grain instead of white flour
- pan-frying instead of deep-frying
- baking eggplant slices or cauliflower schnitzel instead of frying
- making risotto instead of cheesy rice (risotto is a method of cooking rice so that it tastes creamy)
- using egg whites (almost no fat) instead of whole eggs
- dipping your fork into salad dressing instead of drowning your salad in it
- substituting fresh for processed
- substituting salsas and spreads for butters and creams as condiments

Twenty pounds can be lost in a healthy way over the course of about five months - three if you exercise four times a week. A more rapid weight loss is dangerous to your body and not as likely to stay off.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Sorry no recipes, but I have a couple of tips. First, avoid dairy. Even the "low fat" stuff is a lot more fattening than you'd think. Don't cut it completely out, but soy milk has lots of calcium if you're worried about that. (And watch the sugar content, avoid vanilla flavoured or sweetened soy milk).

Second: Beans. They're high in fibre, shown to help cut cancer risks, and generally just great for you. They're very filling! (Always rinse em first otherwise...stink the whole house out).

Eating the vegetables raw or without a lot of sauces is the best way to make your food work for you. There are AWESOME recipes at recipezaar.com and each recipe comes with a calorie count and reviews.
