Why don't Christains seem to know or acknowledge so many things about the Bible and their own religion's history? For instance:
Christianity spilt off from Judaism.
The Bible was formed from many Jewish texts. In fact, the Old Testament is derived from standard Jewish writings and codes. When Jesus came as a Jewish prophet, the Jews debated whether he was The Christ fortold of. Christ-ians said, "Yes" and Jews said, "Nope".
Islam spilt from the early Christian faiths.
After Jesus, Mohammed came along. He was another "Prophet". Most of Islam actually believes in Jesus folks! The virgin birth, the raising of the dead, that he was a prophet of God, the whole bit. Jews said, "Jesus wasn't the Christ, just a prophet of God". Christians said, "Jesus was The Christ and the last Prophet", Muslims said, "Nope, God sent Mohammed to clear up the confusian after Jesus".
So far as the Bible being the literal "Word of God" can someone explain which version of the Bible that actually is?

I partially agree with you. I believe that most people who call themselves Christians have probably never even read what they call the Bible. The ones that have read the whole thing at least once or more will say that they do believe in the old testament, the Jewish writings, as Jesus did. The old testament does not say that Jesus was not the Messiah. On the contrary, there are many places that describe him before he ever came. No where does it say that he is not the son of God. Practicing, believing Christians do believe in the Old and New Testament as it is written. You should read it yourself and you might see the dots connecting in the old testament that point to Jesus the Messiah in the New Testament. If you are Islamic, then you believe in Satan just like Christians do. Satan's main plan is to confuse us all and make us fight and lead us away from the truth. Please always keep an open mind to what the truth might really be. I pray that God only lets me see truth.

That Christian is a split from Judiasm and that we share the Old Testament (or Torah) is common knowledge. Any Christian who knows anything about his religion knows and acknowledges that. That the Jews reject Christ as the Messiah and the Christians accept Him is the subject of the Books of Acts, a major part of Paul's letters, and s leading theme of the Book of Hebrews. Anyone who ever read the Bible knows that. So what is it that we supposedly don't know?
Because Mohammed came several hundreds years after the Bible was completed, the facts about him as not as well known to most Christians. But as there is no confusions about Jesus, it is all plainly laid out in the Bible, Christian has never felt a need to have a Muhammed or a Joseph Smith or a Mary Baker Eddy or a Charles T Russell or a L Ron Hubbard, or any of the hundreds of others who have come along since wanting to throw out the information written about Jesus by people who actual knew Him, were related to Him, lived through the experiences they documented about Him, and replace them with some theory or guess about who he was and what he taught. No thanks, I will stick with the information from the people who actually know Him.
The best "version" to read is the one in the original language, Hebrew for the Old Testament and Greek for the New. But as most people today do not read either of these ancient languages, the best we can do is work from translations of the books. Because it is impossible to translate any literature from one language to another without losing some of the subtle meaning in the original language, it is always a good thing to compare several translation to aid in getting the full color and meaning of the orginal languages. A good investment is a parallel Bible, which as several (usually four) versions printed side by side for easy comparision.

For those of The Christian Faith it is fact that our founding Faith was and is eternaly linked with The Nation of Isriel. Our Lord and Master is The King of the jews. There is no denying that history. The Jews of that day, at least the majority of them, rejected Their King. But That is their loss.
As to the muslims. They did not, DID NOT, split from Christianity. Mohammid tried to peddle his made up mumbojumbo to both the Jews and the Christians to become part of which ever side would accept him. He was rejected by both Jews and Christians. So he just went about spreading his dogma at the point of the sword. And that is how it progressed to this day. At the point of the sword. There is no "muslim" country today that dose not keep it's "believers" inline by sword point.
Christian Faith can not be Spread or compeled by the sword. Those evil inspired men who have claimed to be doing so. all failed.
As to The Bible. The "original" texts are long destroyed. What exists are copies of copies. And men have been fiddling with them for at least 2000 yrs. But, The will of God is still exisiting. and The Salvation Message is still valid.
A much toooo long a study for this forum. You may email me if you like and are an Honest Seeker. All Honest Seekers welcome. I do not spam. I aint got the time. I testify to the Salvation Message and offer the simplicity of The Christian Faith. What ever you may work out with God will be between you and Him.
edit note: Jesus was not a prophet. John the Baptist was the last Prohet
The Bible of today is based on several thousand text fragments dating back to the 1st century. too many of the "modern" english translations use what are the minority texts and those are few. The subject of textual critisism is a deep and divided issue. There is no inerent text in existance today. It is only through the leading of The Holy Spirit that God's will can be truly known.

Christians don't have to believe the Bible is the literal word of God.
Muslims reject all of the Major doctrines of Christianity. Mohammed couldn't possibly be a prophet according to Christian teaching.
It isn't Christian to limit Jesus to being a prophet. He was a prophet and much more than a prophet.
I would guess that you don't know anything about Christianity or its history.

First off, Islam is NOT part of CHRISTianity ( and phony to boot); Muhammad 's a fraud and false prophet and Islam is untrue (no offense meant in this answer 2 ANYONE, but I'm not lying.) Judaism was needed so people could atone for their sins (thanks to Adam and Eve, plus all humanity) and have a relationship with the Lord God(God) , but Jesus Christ atoned and blotted sin once and for all, so Judaism is not needed thanks 2 wonderful Christ ( so Judaism and Christianity are related) and Christianity is the new way to have a good relationship with God and atone for sin; if I were you, I'd get a New Translation Bible with explanatory footnotes and what not or an explanatory teen Bible to explain.(By the way, (V)ichelle and everyone, we CHRISTians read the HOLY Bible; it's THE Living Word, THE HOLY book, and our Holy book; The Holy Bible is NOT pagan(WHAT?, no offense, but that's bologna; I pray 4 U all. )

nobodycan explain that to you or anyone... the bible was oral tradition in the begining, then written by prophets and scholars, then translated.. after a couple thousand years of this, there is no true bible. jews and christians alike basically follow what they were conditiontioned to belive as the "truth" from childhood. realistically, all it is is a set of stories with morals, this is where we get our ideas of right and wrong (aside from the law)
and no. its not the literal word of god, if that was the case, there is no possible way it could have been translated properly. I THINK it would be like a LITERAL translation of a japanese story to english... every author down the line added tidbits of his own perception and ideas. now we just have a best seller

Most Christians today are Christians in name only and being led by blind leaders teaching the traditions of men.
I believe in the original 1611 King James Version as a great study Bible. I can't read Greek or Hebrew so God leads me to the light through the use of His Word.
Hope this helps you.

Sounds like you did your homework. Guess if you want to you should look up the old testament prophecies that foretell of the messiah and see if they are fulfilled by the coming of Jesus. Truly thats the only way to find the answer to your question. Find a synagogue in your area and ask them questions about the prophecies and then find a church and ask them what prophecies he fulfilled, find an imam and ask him the basis of his religion. Asking for an answer on here will only get you guided down the path the answerer wants you to follow. Jew, Christian, or Muslim, so find out on your own what you want to believe.

Jesus is the last prophet, and He is the messiah. His death and ressurection are proven historically accurate. As a Christian, i expect, but do not enjoy seeing so many cults form from deviations of the truth.
I'd say that the true version of the Bible would be the original copies. (I think they are in Jerusalem)

You seem to know quite a bit of what the Jews, Christians, and Muslims believe. If you can't find what you're looking for, how about the Zoroastrian religion, or Shinto, or the Hindu beliefs ? Buddhism is a beautiful religion. Give them all a try before you criticize any one of them.
