Yes it can happen. But, even if there are constantly people around that love you and encourage you, if you don't have any self-worth then it isn't going to matter. I had depression for a long time and the only way that I came out of it with any sanity left is by finally learning to love myself and learning that I can make a difference in the lives of others. The thing that started me on the right path was to just find someone every day and do something good for them, even if you never get anything in return. Hold open a door for an older person, talk to someone that is shy and let them know that you are interested in what they have to say, etc... Just do something every day that makes you feel good on the inside and that will definitely start to help.

Having support during a time like that sure does help but curing depression comes from the individual. I remember when i was going through depression my mom said how bad she felt because it was something she couldn't fix. It was something i had to do myself. With all the support I had it was still an experience only I could face and conquer.

I believe it possible, and I am not alone as many in the mental health profession felt this way long before I even knew what depression was. There is a large number of people who outgrow depression for any number of reasons and live depression free. Moreover, some statistics show that 80% of the populace will experience clinical depression at least once in their lifetimes. That's a lot of depressed people. So, good luck to you and I hope you find a solution that leaves you content and depression free, if that is you inquire for yourself. Good luck and God bless....

Depression is hard. You don't usually realize that you're depressed when you're depressed; at least I didn't. You've got to get up, get out, and do things. Run around the block. Go to the zoo. Take a swim. Go to an amusement park, anything, just do something!

Having the support around can help to a certain extent, but i depends on how bad the depression is, i have heard that exercise is a great help, but if the depression is bad you must seek medical help, aint nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck

there is always medication to take for depression. but i mean not every body needs them, some people become better without them. but if u really feel like u need serious help u can go to a doctor and they will give u a prescriped medication to take for couple months, but let me tell u its expensive. try to talk to therapist and psycoligist. dont think ur a weird or be ashamed of u being depressed. its normal, every one gets to that point sometime in their life. Best of luck!!! hope u see life in a better shape very soon!!! :)

It can't be cured, but it can be dealt with. Medications such as Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Zoloft can help straighten out hormonal problems that lead to depression, and behavioral therapy can work wonders in reteaching a depression sufferer how to think of themselves and how to respond to triggers.

I can cure my own in various ways. I think that what you suggest would work in my case. Sometimes just a walk or sunning, swimming, this answering, music, beer, good food can cure it. I REALLY want to have what you are suggesting. Any good love is hard to find, unconditional might not even exist.

Richfan dad above got it right:
"Depression is hatred turned inward. Find the root cause of the self-hatred and you will find the cure for your depression"

Yes.
For at one point in my life, I was kinda that way, or well, more upset.
I took some meds but they never seemed to work.
I then just stopped taking meds and I feel fine.
There are many times where i still get upset, but it does not relate to depression, or getting upset.
