If you heard "a booming voice from the sky", claiming to be God and God told you to kill your entire family, would you do it? If so, why? If not, why not? I mean it was good enough for Abraham to hear a booming voice, wasn't it?
If you don't believe in booming voices from on High, do you believe that it's just a sign of a mental disorder? If you are religious, would you, -COULD you consider that someone like Abraham *might* have suffered from a mental illness?

This question, like Abraham's test, was an act of faith. It supposes that you hear the voice of God and are told to kill your family, etc. It is simply the instruction and it does not suppose that you actually DO kill them. It merely asks if you were willing to accept the voice as that of God, and it asks if you would obey the voice of God -not knowing if it was a 'test' or not.

You Read Some Of It And Got The Frame....But You Didn't Get The Whole Picture!......GOD Put Abraham Through A Test And He Past The Test And Did Not Kill His Son!.......He Trusted GOD And GOD Came Through For Him!.....GOD's Ways & Thoughts Are Different From Man's!......(Isa. 55:8,9)......You Need To Get Saved And Read The Entire Bible To Get Spiritual Understanding Of Scriptures!....Kicking Scriptures Around Brings "HERESEY" Against The Word Of GOD!.......And As Far As Your Natural Opinion About Abraham Suffering From Mental Illness......Well, You Are Definately Suffering From SPIRITUAL RETARDATION!.......Ps. Go Get Spiritually Educated In The Word Of GOD!....And Yes, I Would Do What Ever GOD Told Me To Do Because I Know That He Would Bring Me Through, Just Like He Did With His Other Servants!

I would not under any circumstances.
I assume you are talking of the binding of Issac.
First off let me state that if someone could prove to me Abraham didn't exist it would have no effect on my faith. For one I firmly believe in the big bang and evolution. Yet I also firmly believe in a G-d given Torah. From a Jewish perspective the Torah is not a book of science nor a history book. Jewish sages since at least the 12th century (probably a lot longer) have acknowledged that.
Torah is a dialog between G-d and humans. Torah was given for people of all ages, so it has to be understandable by people of all ages. Let's face facts a person 3300 years ago needs to be approached one way and someone today needs to be approached in another way.
People who read Genesis and say this is how the universe was created and evolution or the big bang are wrong are missing the point. All this Christian hysteria about not being able to follow the law is just that, hysteria. Do you honestly think G-d is going to damn me to hell (by the way Jews do not believe in hell) for eating a cheeseburger?
Now as to the Binding of Issac, the reason G-d did this was to demonstrate that human sacrifice is NOT acceptable, in a time when it was very acceptable.

Well first of all God does not speak in an audible voice the way He used too. No Abraham did not suffer from a mental illness. He simply trusted God.

The voice telling Abraham to sacrifice his son was a test of his faith, and God didn' t let him kill his son...He let Abraham get to the point of almost doing it and stopped him...Abraham had proven his faith...
So why would He tell us to commit murder? He says murder is a sin...and He won't tell us to sin. If you hear a booming voice to tell you to do something against scripture...it's not from God.

First of all God may be Himself, but He never goes against His word. He would never tell anyone to murder. Abraham and Isaac were from the O.T. and things were different then. Mental disorders exist, like depression and anxiety, but God can still speak to Christian, His people, a variety of ways.

Just to point out, in Judaism, many of the Rabbis who commented on the Torah a thousand years ago had this idea that except for Moses, every prophet in the Torah spoke to God, and God spoke to them, in a dream.

That "boomig voice" in Abe's time was not a trick. The voice was heard oftin enough. Now, he speaks to us through the Bible, and people can pull pranks like that, so no.

If you recall, God stopped Abraham before he killed Isaac.
Would I do it? No, but I also don't think he would tell me to.
