I have a 7 month old and I pay $25 a day for her and this seems to be the norm where I live. They should at least be paying you $200 a week.

Check in your area for daycares and see what they would run... they vary greatly depending on your area. Keep in mind that at 17, the most you could make is slightly above minimum wage, and probably a max of 30 hours per week. Decide which job you would like more, and how much of a side benefit there is to being with your neice/nephew rather than working at McDonald's, like other high schoolers. I can tell you that I'm in the Dallas area, and we pay a daycare $170+/week for an infant alone! Two year old would be approximately $80 +/-, and there would be a discount. In our area, daycare would run somewhere in the neighborhood of $225/wk. If I were in your shoes, and this was accurate, then I'd say maybe asking for $150 wouldn't be out of the question... much higher, and she might rather go to a daycare. Of course, there's also the question of what she can afford, since she's family. If she can afford it, then yes, I'd say you want to give her a good discount because it's family, but you should still charge a little more. If she can't afford more, and you would rather be doing what you're doing than making minimum wage at McD's, then let it slide... hope this helps!

I am a nanny professionally I believe this is adequate pay but you are working too many hours...I agree that a lot of factors are involved like location (state your in) and what the average per child rate is there, age of the children, experience and references, but I think the most important factor is who you are working for. In this case you are working for your sister, does she have the money to pay you more? If she does, maybe after a couple months you can ask for a raise (usually parents will wait 3 months or so before giving a raise). I work anywhere from 30 to 50 hours a week and earn $10 per hour for 3 children, 2 of the children are in school most of the day and the youngest is 3.5. I work 3 out of 4 weeks a month so my week off is my week paid vacation-she pays me 40 hrs for that week. Now even while the pay is really really good, I work for a doctor. She can afford to pay that much, maybe your sister can't but I am sure she would be willing to work it out with you. If you are really not happy with the pay then try finding other work...

I pay $150 every week for my 2 year old to go to a daycare only 3 days a week. Since you are basically working full time and have no time to have another job.. that gives you about $400 a month. I wouldn't think that is a wage that you could live on unless they are providing room and board.
I think you are not getting paid very much for the amount of care you provide. How long have you been there? Maybe bring up an increase.

Being that it's your sister and you're doing her a favor it sounds about right. I'm sure if she could afford to pay more money, she'd put her children in a child care facility. I pay my sitter $125/week ($25 a day) as does the parents of the other child that attends the sitters house. However i'm staring my 18month old at a regular day care center soon and will be paying $165 a week instead of $125.
Shes family. Be glad you can help her out and you're getting some $$ for it. If you want more money, get a job that starts after 5pm.

I paid my sister $100 each week to watch my daughter. Mon-Wed she would spend the night at my house, (i would feed her) then. Then Wed nights someone would pick my sis up to take her back home. Thurs-Friday my daughter spent the night with sister at my moms house. She is not watching her anymore and my daughter is in daycare and I pay $205 a week. My daughter is 12 months old.

well...how old r u...how much experience do you have....any certifications....it also depends on your area of where you live on how much you should be getting. in my area for a newborn up to 12 months its 180 a week (remember theyre certified and its a daycare center) and i think 2 year old were 125. i think 150 - 175 would be fair to ask for since you are watching two kids....i would pay 100 dollars just for one child

Um... YES
That means you are making $2.22 an hour, or $1.11 an hour per kid. Unless you get some serious side benefits (like lots of free food) or you're under 14 in which case it will be harder to get a real job, you might consider asking for a raise. Talk to your parents as well, ask them what they thing of the wage.

if you weren't related then I would ask for more, about 125 a week but since your related that's about right...i paid 410 a month for both of my kids in a daycare...if your only 17 then this is probably a temp. thing until you go back to school...think of it as a summer job...if your out of high school, you need to find a real job that pays and gives you skills or to college...good luck.
