I use Aquage transforming paste, I have very thick hair and it works good for messy styles without weighing down your hair or getting hard.

loreal proffesional (only available at salons) do a good one in a can, cleverly named "Sprax", its a spray-wax. its good cos you can never apply too much and does not make hair greasy or crispy. It costs £2.50 for a small can and £5-£7 for a full size I think

I find that a good dollop of Bird's custard does the trick nicely ... mind you you will probably need to walk around with a flyspray!
