Have a great time. Europe is nice. I suggest you keep all your money and valuables concealed. I liked to place my money in my inside coat pocket..so pick pocketers could not reach them..especially on crowded trains. Also, be wary of scammers and gypsies.....seek hotels and tourist centers instead of strangers..for directions...because its tough to get around unless you know their language fairly well. Locals do like it when you use their language..but sometimes..they might overwhelm you!

Wear a moneybelt. Keep your passport, plane tickets, money, ATM/Debit/Credit cards in there. Operate with a day's worth of spending money in your wallet. That way, if you are a victim of a pickpocket, the trip can still go on. If you need more, step into a bathroom and make a "withdrawal" from your moneybelt.
Rather than buying 12 million different language books, check out a few books from the library or surf the Internet to find a few good phrases in each language. Copy to a Word document, print it off and voila--your own phrase book. It's cheaper than buying language books. It's also a good idea to do that instead of buying a travel guide book for each place you're visiting. Can get a bit bulky. Obviously divide them into separate chapters for each country.
Try to read up a bit on the lifestyle and culture and customs and what-not for each place you're visiting. For example, in Paris somone who smiles constantly is a sign of senility.
Wear comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you. Drink lots of water.

The media is invested in the idea of misrepresenting united statesa. as a dream usa. The info bypass in assessment propaganda. In France, operating example, there are reliable not straight forward paintings unions protecting the overall worker and convalescing their wages. The political gadget is determined as a lot as be a real democracy the position human beings vote and they vote for applicants who symbolize their hobbies (very like it will be if the fairway celebration in the US replaced into no longer marginalized by ability of mass media). the overall worker is certain beneficiant holiday advantages that amplify to numerous weeks for most. also, the French have applied a customary health gadget it really is optimized on the health of the individuals, no longer the health of the stability sheets for the for-earnings coverage agencies and medical establishments. this gadget is amazingly equivalent to what Richard Nixon had proposed close to the right of his administration. I blame the media for this slick propaganda operation that tries to cajole those who they stay in the most appropriate usa in the international (and can't tolerate any presidential candidate who would have friends and relations with contrasting perspectives.) in the US, voters are in prisons at a cost 7 cases better than Canada and 12 cases better than Japan. The media stirs up a frensy about street crime and medicines, although the most important criminal acts were committed by ability of company executives. This usa is administered for the earnings of the effective elite, and our media reflects this. The media in this usa has continuously prevented the most important subject matters and has recommended controversy into aspects which couldn't disturb the sleek courting the media has with large agency and authorities. Many memories are handed over, and others are given the corporate spin lower than the guise of honest and balanced. the US maintains its unlawful and devastating career of the middle East in spite of the shortcoming of customary help in Iraq or the US. in truth, terrorism has higher dramatically and the probability of terrorism in the US has higher because individuals international overseas coverage. individuals are the most appropriate entertained and the least suggested of any inhabitants in the international. to study better, please go on your interior reach eco-friendly celebration and volunteer to assist set up this new celebration. study the writings of Noam Chomsky and Mr. Ralph Nader. those 2 actually everyone appears the authentic American heros. end balloting for the lesser of two evils. Vote eco-friendly!

Please do not behave as I have seem other American tourists.
Accept that you are leaving home and things will not be the same as they are in the USA. Do not become one of these people who complain loudly because nothing is the same as it is back home. Please don't eat expclusively at mcdonalds, pizza hut, kfc, burger king, tgif's, etc. learn to enjoy local food. You will experience culture shock - everyone does - and deal with it in your own way.
BE WARNED: Americans have a bad reputation for being overloud and obnoxious and it doesn't impress favourably so be aware of your behaviour. Also many taxi drivers (and others) will purposely rip you off, tell you lies and otherwise misguide you if they find out you are american.
Don't be offended, but you may want to consider attaching a Canadian flag to your baggage as you will find that you will be treated better. I have encountered many Americans who do this and even consider it a safety precaution.
Most importantly enjoy your trip and learn from it.

PHOTOCOPY YOUR PASSPORT, TRAVELOR CHECKS NUMBERS & ATM/ CREDIT CARD.
Get address, phone numbers & directions BEFORE you leave for the US consulate (just in case you need it)
Get a good digital camera and carry several camera cards with you. Research where there is a digital store in each place you travel so you can download pictures to CD & reuse cards. (also take some scenery pics as well as ones of yourself @ the place plus take photos of anything that catches your eyes.
If not on a tour, then do online research before you leave & print out where you want to go in each city by city (that way you can toss paper when finished with city)
Purchase a travel notebook so you can write down what you see & what impresses you about each place. Write about the city, stops you make, anything you find interesting.
Use your ATM card instead of carrying lots of cash.
Write down the numbers of any traveler checks you buy & make sure you sign them before you leave (otherwise cannot get replacements)

Hi,
You think you're going to Europe, but you're actually going to a whole bunch of different countries with different languages and cultures. One thing they do have in common is no tradition of service. So remember to be polite, smile a lot, say thank you and you'll make lots of friends.

be respectful of their culture and mindful of your behavior (they don't like loud obnoxious americans.)
understand the currency, if something other than the euro is used (although that's not likely).
Try to learn essentials of the language of the reigion you're visiting.
(The french like that you try at least.) Stuff like how to order, how to ask for the bathroom, how to ask for certain directions, how much does this cost, and other phrases you are likely to use.
I wouldn't advertise I was american.
have fun! should be a blast.
