Lie on your left side initially, because the colon dives into the left lower quadrant of the abdomen up to the spleen (splenic flexure) and the crosses the abdomen (transverse colon). Flushing this part of the colon first.
Then when returns start to become clear, trade tot he right side so that you will now flush the hepatic flexure (by the liver) and then down to the ileocecal valve (where the appendix is and where the small intestine joins the large intestine).

It is better to be on your left side because of the anatomy of the colon.
