"my father's son" -- refers to the man talking
"that man's father" -- refers to the son

I think the companion's son is the answer. Is it if he has no sisters and brothers then 'my father's son' must mean he is saying 'me'. Therefore its 'that man's father is me' So it must be his son, right?
