Do your very best "just for you" and your satisfaction in doing your best...not for others acknowledgment.

I started this when they just started elementary school. Sure we acknowledged their excellent report cards...we didn't pay per grade, give gifts..but did celebrate with a favorite dinner together or go out for dinner.

Now, years later, one of our daughters is married, pregnant on finishing her masters onto her doctorate...getting scholarships and worked her way all the way through schools.

Our 32 yr old daughter has had her PhD and is a professor since she was 27...scholarships and worked all through school. Married with 2 delightful children. When she wrote her thesis, in her introduction she thanked me with my above quote from her elementary school days. She pushed herself through all her goals for her own sake.

How rewarding is that for a parent!! :)

I don't have children, but I think the best thing you can ever say to your child at any stage is "I love you"
