I wasn't home and my four teenage brothers were supose to watch her. (my 8 week old pup) They said she was fine in the night, but in the morning around 10 o'clock she was lying dead by the couch. There were little peices of wite window caulking also by the couch so were assuming she ate it and it poisoned her little body? She was very healthy, active, and very playfull so i don't think it could have been anything else?

How sad.....Your little gal probably accidently poisoned herself by eating something she shouldn't have. Your brothers were negligent by NOT watching her. If they couldn't directly supervise her, she should have been in her "den", or crate or a securely enclosed area.

Little puppies are like human toddlers....in constant need of direct visual supervision when they are not sleeping.

You have EVERY RIGHT to be angry with your brothers. You trusted your pup to their care. They failed you.

This is a very sad and tragic learning opportunity for both you and your family. You should watch over a young pup the SAME way you watch over a human toddler.

Similar tragedies have happened with human toddlers - the direct result of human inattentiveness and neglect.

Please think long and hard before adopting another puppy until you and the REST of your family are truely prepared for the great responsibility involved in raising a happy healthy pup into a happy, healthy dog.

So sad that people don't realize what a responsibility a pet is.

When you get ANY pet and particularly a dog/cat, you need to take it to the vet for shots and an exam. PERIOD. Don't be a cheapo.

Your dog could have had all kinds of stuff brewing inside him at such a young age. It may have been the silicone caulking and it may not have been.

The first year or two is soooo important. You must watch them like kids.

It does sound like she was poisoned by the caulking. That is so sad.

Pups will taste everything, just as little children will do. Accidental poisoning is very common among our babies.

I have lost puppies to poisoning too.
Caulking is VERY toxic. I looked it up on this site. http://www.pwgsc.gc.ca/realproperty/text/pubs_ercr/appendix_a11-e.html

It is full of petroleum distilates and preservatives.

did u take pics of the scene? what did u do after? It all depends on the position of the dog in relation to where ever the caulking was. Also if there were any traces of caulking in her oral cavity (mouth). Email me a response. spongejedipants@yahoo.com

the window caulking was poising to your pup. Next time you have to leave ,put her in a kennel. That's what I am doing since I have my dogs. Pups like little kids like to try everything. there don't know if it is good or bad for them

There is cilicone in caulking and while it is wet it becomes sticky. So while the puppy ate it, it might have chocked it to death. But the best bet ie to see a vet.

my guess would be the same as yours. if it is not too late, you should definitely take her to your vet for an autopsy. that way if you were to get another pet one day, you would possibly be able to prevent this from happening to them. i am really sorry for your loss. the thing that worries me is that teenagers can sometimes do stupid things to animals without thinking about the consequences. hopefully that wasn't the case though. i strongly believe in crate training dogs and puppies so that way they are in a safe place when you can't be with them every second.

I'm sorry you lost your puppy. Window caulk is toxic if it is ingested, so that may very well be the cause.

It was Colonel Mustard, in the living room, with the caulking gun.
