You'll discover that you will actually lose money going into dogbreeding, and not make it back for several years. The cost of vet care, feeding, & housing take more time & money than most people realize.
Plus, considering the number of established breeders with lots of references, people will likely go to them than to a new breeder with no experience & no proven track record. Unless you can show people a top-notch setup that looks clean and professional, with registered pure-breds with no inbreeding - that will all cost big money - people will shy away from someone inexperienced.
Furthermore, with all the animal shelters with behavior-tested, friendly dogs that are relatively cheap, there may not be a big demand for your puppies that you'll have to charge alot of money for to cover your start-up costs (and time, energy, & lost sleep!).
You'd be safer making money by getting a second job.

"Backyard Breeders" are not a popular thing. I raise bulldogs, and even though they sell in my location for around $1500 - the expense well exceeds the profit. You have to breed dogs because you love the breed and the dogs. You cannot do this as a second income. I don't reccomend getting into the business. Be a good citizen and don't add to the already unqualified people in the breeding business.

Well if you think about it "logically" unless you are going to RAISE a competing champion bloodline dog, there really is no profit. Take the popular pug which sells for roughly $500, so you have to buy 2, thats $1000, but the females cant reproduce until almost a year old, so there is vet bills, food, medicines, shots, ect., ect. But, pugs only produce 2-4 puppies, and then you have to care for them for 8 weeks, which TRUST ME from experience isnt as cheap as you would think! so you would make $1000-$2000 at that point, but in that year you would be out TONS more!

People like you are the reason that there are so many poor quality, unhealthy dogs out there."Backyard breeders" (and you are obviously one of them) are incompetent, inexperienced and unreliable. You should not be breeding a dog simply "for extra income". Dog breeding requires patience, KNOWLEDGE and a significant investment. You can't just go out and buy a ***** and breed her to the nearest same breed dog, then sell the pups. You need ot have the dogs tested for all manner of genetic problems, have them x-rayed for OFA (look it up) guidelines and be a breeder sanctioned by the American Kennel Club. Please stay out of the "business".

You wont get any extra income for a long time, if anything, you'll be losing lots of money in the process for all the neccesities of the mother and pups. Let the professionals do it. Making your dog go through pain for your own profit isnt worth the trouble for the money.
If you want extra income, get another job- or how about you try making babies for people? Going through pain just for profit.
First you try it, then consider.

Breeding dogs is not a source of income.
You are exactly what people would call a back yard breeder and the reason that so many dogs today have things like hip displasia and the genetic problems that they have.
Do not breed dogs for income.
