To defeat? How about deal with? The philosophy (not religion) of Buddhism's 3 tenants.
1. The world is suffering
2. The Cause of all suffering is desire
3. You can either choose to NOT desire or desire and deal with the consequences

To learn about the bible and follow it's principles. The hardest part is to apply the advice that you get, but with God's help you can endure through all problems that life throws at you, until paradise is restored back onto the earth.
