And why don't men have one less rib?

Garwy, I don't hate! But in response to your answer, recent studies have found women to have superior immune systems, as that development is located on the X, so in essence, we have a 'back-up' X if the first one contains any mutations. This could also explain women's susceptibility to auto-immune diseases. Solanas was misguided in her reactions, but she wasn't wrong in her assumption that the X chromosome contains life saving qualities that the Y chromosome does not, thus lending to greater longevity in women. Doesn't our ability to survive determine strength, rather than muscle mass? Only trying to challenge the long held notions that men were created first, by men, and therefore they are stronger, superior, and women should submit. I didn't start this fight.

The Bible does not say that the first man was created from a womb, now does it? God created man from the 'dust in the ground'. And the first female didn't start out in the womb either. She was made from a piece of bone from the man. The fact that WE come from a womb and both start with nipples is irrelevant. I think we are born that way as a punishment. We are all born into sin anyway, whether we like it or not.

The sex of a baby is established at the moment of conception. The male's sperm chromosome compliment determines the sex of a baby. It is dependant on whether a "Y" chromosome containing sperm fertilizes the egg or an "X" chromosome containing sperm fertilizes the egg. A female only has one type of egg - one with an "X" chromosome. If a baby has 2 "X" chromosomes, it's a girl. An XY chromosome pair is a boy. So all men are XY and all women are XX. So it's fair to state that all men carry an X or female gene. Is it not apt to state then that woman is created by man? Females do not have the genetic component to create males.

Yes. In a way... but there's also the idea that women are more evolved than men, at least physically, because they have three separate body parts for the three functions of the pubic region - urination, defecation, and reproduction - while men have two. Maybe this means that women evolved with sexual reproduction, and after men? I don't know. Never really looked into it any further.

Btw... Here's a CHRISTIAN site... even they admit that men DO NOT have one less rib. I really hope that ac28 merely misunderstood the nurse friend, otherwise, that's scary.

quite right. We all start out as a female embryo in the beginning, only the sperm determines the gender change to a male. It holds the gegntic codes, while the egg is the basic mold setting. Like a factory that makes dolls, you have your generic look to them all before the specific paint designs are added to make them individuals.
Males don't have a less rib b/c their bodies don't have to carry a baby to term. Our bodies are designed with one less so everything can be moved aside for the child. Have you seem a woman in the middle of childbirth, legs wide open to push? One less rib helps that go along.

Actually, you are correct. And it talks about this in the bible. I do not remember the exact verse, but it says something like in the beginning woman was taken from man, but ever since then every man that was born has been taken from a woman. I thought when I read that, that it was talking about women carrying the baby and giving birth, but I also think that you are correct about babies starting out as females in the womb. About the rib thing, I don' t know.

You would have to be a lot better at searching the web than I, But there is ample evidence in the medical reasearch to disprove the old wives tale you are repeating. The sex of a person is determined at conception. The code it there and when the two parts meet and merge. That is that. All that that new life will be is determined at that instant. That is scientific fact. It is a life not a choise.

Because all of that Adam and Eve crap was just that - Christianity is based on power and control, with a nice healthy dose of misogyny. If you wanted to rule the world, weren't a woman, and you knew you were naturally the stupider/less evolved, yet physically stronger, of the sexes, wouldn't you, too, dominate with your ape fists and concoct stories (then call them unquestionable fact, of course) about how everyone besides you was weak, came after you, and was probably going to fry in hell? And just so you, and anyone else, reading this posting knows, I haven't touched a single word of Da Vinci Code. So there!

the notion that a y chromosome is no more than a defective x chromosome - and that therefore males are an inferior genotype - was actually the basis of valerie solanas' 'society for cutting up men'.

solanas herself was developed as a protegée by andy warhol, and regarded as an amusing and original enfant terrible by many of the other early occupants of 'the factory'.

solanas became so enraged by what she regarded as warhol's paternalism that she finally decided to murder him.

....

in the 1960s valerie solanas was regarded as a dangerous lunatic by most - particularly when it became clear that her program for men included murdering her friends once she had tired of them.

these days many 'women's studies' courses pay rapt attention to her works as proto-feminist utterances.

if you need to hate people, finding reasons is easy. the christians discovered the sin of eve, the feminists follow valerie solanas and her primacy of the female mythology.

finding reasons to love is harder.

but more worthwhile.

1. The bible is a myth.

2. Sex is determined at the moment of conception due to the presence of XX or XY chromosomes. Males 'bits' develop at a later stage, but the foetus is not 'female' before the males parts devlop.
