Bellydancing is loads of fun and can be aerobic as well as the fact that it works your core muscles. While it would be an excellent addition to an existing workout routine, it may not be enough by itself to get or stay in shape.
I have not seen a good bellydancing instructional video.
Find a local class. It will be much more fun, you will get better instruction and meet other women who like to dance and stay in shape.
Bellydance is largely about the middle eastern culture and the dance itself is very honouring of a woman's body. I love it because it doesn't require the dancer to conform to a certain body type the way other dances do.
I highly recommend it.

Yes, it works. Bellydancing is thought by some to only be a means of sexual turn-on, but it's actually a great means of exercise that teaches you muscles control as well as keeping you in shape. Books on instruction can be found in many, many bookstores.

you would have to look into an adult movie/bookstore, they will have the best tapes to help you with the art of belly dancing.
it will help to shape your hips, thighs, buttocks, lower abs and even your arms if you do it right.
i have done this, and lost 45 pounds in 12 weeks. i was 160 pouns now i am down to 115 pound, 5feet 5inches, and no flab unlike other workouts where you loose the weight but have the extra skin, here i have none of the extra skin to make me look big. it is one of the funnest workout you can do. you can even invite people over to have a party to learn to belly dance, and it helps to spice up the bedroom, if you know what i mean.

bellydancing will help u will core and abdominals mostly...it will focus on mostly just burning extra calories..does not focus on one or another body part...will help u move more sexier as in dancing and might give u higher self confidence...it does work to a degree...

There is a great exercise video for this. It is called Yoga Booty Ballet. I love it. It is a nice change to the mundane work out and it works mostly my abs and butt. You can find it at www.beachbody.com

you can buy the videos online or in malls.
you can even rent them out.
it helps in shaping your body. results will vary according to your own belly dancing routine.
also, once you know belly dancing, then all other dances would be easy for you ;)
