There's a man down deep inside of you;
I wish I knew him better
Behind that skillful mask that's so controlled & all "together"
A differant man-more warm & real
Then just the usual show--the flirty fun & popular one, that we all think we know. I see this man from time to time In a look a word a smile, a gesture sweet that comes somtimes to make it all worthwhile, we talked one day not long ago;
I saw the real you then. And since that day I've longed to see that person once again. Cause after that things seemed to change, the old man came to the fore, It seemed with us it's differant now, then what I felt before. I'd like to know you heart to heart; that person way down deep. I think he's specail more by far then your other image cheap

I'm a man and I like to watch sports;
I also don't wear underwear beneath my shorts!
I tell you what's on my mind;
instead of touchy-feely baloney;
you may think that is unkind;
but I don't feel like a phony!

The real me isn't so bad, just let me show you;
if you'd only take a chance;
then you'd know I wasn't trying to snow you;
just to get in your pants!

You can use fishermen as an analogy for this situation you find yourself. From what i am understanding is you are finding me who put out a lure and you bite the real in and you finally the person that caught you. Its natural and its not just a woman thing. Not saying you in particular, but think about this for a minute a female cop just gets off work its late but the nights just starting. Also same time a male game tester gets off work feels the same way about the night. Both end up at the same club. The female sees the guy if she comes off overly assertive as she would in her normal day to day she might scare him off so she changes herself to a passive woman. The guy sees the female and as a computer geek who tends to be passive finds it hard to get a lady so decide to change his persona to an assertive guy. Thus, you have two individuals who without intention of hurt each other end up putting up a "front" eventually the female is going to see to assertive and the male is goin to seem to passive later and its going to cause some problems. Not sure if this helps you at all.

Stereo-typing men that way doesn't say very much for you as a person. There are still really ginuine men out there but where have all the real women gone. Maybe because of past relationships or just sheer evolution, we now hav women who are displaying all the traits they hate in men. I have been in countless relationships with women who became abusive, cheated, lied, and were just real B@#$hes. Where are the women at? That is the real question.

We'd like to say our mind, but we are now scared to hurt feelings and get beat up about it.
Example:

Two men sitting in a boat, fishing, Joe turns to Fred
“You really hurt me with what you said yesterday while we were fishing, and I’ve been thinking about it all night and all morning.”

Never happened.

Two men sitting in a boat, fishing, Fred says something smartas$ to Joe, and Joe says right then,
“Hey I resent that, Dumb As$, pass me a beer.”
Both guys are still friends, the situation is over, and it will never be brought up again.
Unless….
Fred shook up the can of beer so it would explode when opened, at which point Joe would hit him in the face with a crank bait. Then the whole family and friends would be told about the exploding beer and the crank bait, good laugh, and nothing would be said about the hurt feelings.

Now replace either Joe or Fred, or both, with a female(s). And…

Man and woman sit in a boat, the woman turns to the man and says…from yesterday, last week, from the month before “You hurt my feelings with what you said, why did you (want to hurt my feelings, have to say those things to me, care so little for me that you’d hurt me like that)”… and you would have a man sleeping on a couch or 2 women who were no longer talking to each other for weeks.

How we communicate, how we hold on to things that happened in the past, and how we express our displeasure over something said/done affects our relationships.

Wow, That was very nice. Poetic.

err...now about your question.

I allways tell my friends to go where their interests are to find romance. The guy you see sitting at a borders reading a book is not acting anything to impress you. Thats him. So long as hes not reading somthing to funky that could be your start.

They are around. You just need to change where you look. Never give up, your soul mate is out there. Believe me I feel you because I have asked that question many a time (in regards to women). Internal strength and perserverence are a must. Good luck and god bless.

there are still genuine men around...different form one to the other. probably the reason why you're still looking for the "genuine" is because you have set up standards and qualifications that will fit well with your expectations...with the thought that no thing will change
personalities change as it ages...
preference change as you seek for something more greater and better...
every thing changes...

I feel I have been pretty sincere in my answers. no fluff, as genuine as possible, I take offense to being labeled ingenuine.
the problem with knowing me heart to heart is I am very particular who I let that close. heart to heart is a give and take process, how much have you invested? give a piece of yourself and trust it not to be exploited.
