That first answer sounds like a co-dependent battered wife
"My husband's not violent, really, he's a good man, it's just that I mess up sometimes and he has to teach me a lesson."

When God has had enough, he takes righteous action. The brutality which God hit sodom was justified. The Bible says that they
Gen 13:13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.
You note that they had some knowledge of God in that they were wicked before God.
The egyptians had many false Gods and were rejecting God himself they put God's people in bondage and he didn't ask, what Moses said were orders to let them go.
The death of Jesus is the death that all mankind deserves, and Jesus went willingly to that death so we wouldn't have to. Sin is serious thing and to take it lightly like many do here has terrible consequences. We are always forewarned of our punishment, just like Sodom, and Egypt were and they didn't obey. God is loving, but just and when people won't respond to the love of God then they must suffer the justice of God. There are people on here that openly say that they would rather go to hell than be with God. They have chosen and must live out the consequences. Very simple.

that´s the price of having a one god. I mean look at the jews through history they look like they were the choosen people to be burned alive and slaughtered (eastern tribes , including egyptian, romans, christian during medievo and hitler all burn jews )and after all they started the one god thing on the three major religions on the world(judaism , christianity and islam).
Even worse people stopped seen the buty of this world (the seas, the skies , the green, the night) and started calling it a valley of tears, and the illusion of the vain. Even worst they stopped liking themselves , their bodies and insctincts and started to believe to be very vulnerable to the evil snake of temptation. Yeap the one God certainly carried along a lot of tragedy. And for all of you jesus lover i will quote "I have not come here to bring peace, but to make the son rise against the father and set one brother apart from the other, and make people left their loved ones " This point is very important cause so far i have heard no argument that makes my god the god of israel an all loving being as new era christian try to make believe

No Kidding! Most of the books put into the Christian Bible, were picked out by the Catholic church. I think they thought by putting enough violence into the Book, we would be too afraid to be bad! Lol! Keeping in mind that in ancient history, there was a great deal of violence, just as today, we must remember that God doesn't do the cruel things in our lives, people do. We were given Free Will and look what we've done with it! Too much violence is done in the name of God! Shame on us!

I agree. The God of the old testament and his angels were always appearing in fire and explosions. It would be hard to list how many times they rained down fire and brimstone on their enemies, or appeared with flaming chariots and burning whirling cherubim blades. I would love to see the old testament in action movie form. There's more light shows and UFOs and explosions than most holywood blockbusters. Too bad Jesus didn't get any laser guns like the old angels.

god in unquestionably violent...which would go along way to proving "Creationism" for those who follow that in so much that if we are made in God's image, we couldnt escape being a bloodthirsty lot....but this also goes against the principles that Christianity supposedly teaches, such as love and forgiveness....quite a contradiction wouldnt you say? are we like god? who could be considered cruel, or at the very least indifferent to our deaths, or are we like Jesus? who teaches harmony and love and forgiveness....and if it is the trinity: god the father, god the son, and god the holy ghost, how could we possibly be good christians in the face of such contradictions?

I'm SO glad someone else noticed. Descriptions of a loving and merciful god evidently don't take the Old Testament into account.

I agree. I've never understoof the whole "Thou shalt not kill" when it happens so much in the Bible and in the real world. The war we are in right now is all about faiths, and oil, but thats beside the point.

Don't forget all those laws, the breaking of which requires being put to death.
