having limewire on your computer isn't illegal, but downloading the music it offers you is. if you don't pay for what it offers you then it's illegal, but i have it, and it's not like you get caught. i've used it for over a year, and it works great. i wouldn't worry about getting it.

The Limewire application itself is not illegal, downloading or distributing copyrighted files is.

Have the artists/copyright holders of the songs authorized their distribution via this medium? No?

Then it's illegal.

A good general rule is that if you're not paying for it, it's probably illegal. Also, if you are allowed to upload songs yourself as a user of the software, it's almost definitely illegal.

It depends on what you use it to download. I'm sure there are files on there that aren't copyright protected but I doubt those are the ones you feel like downloading.
