HandyCams are Sony specific. Camcorders is a general term used by all manufacturers; eg. TV vs. Trinitron

Handycam is the brand name of Sony camcorders just as kleenex is a brand name of tissues.

Camcorder is an abbreviated word for video camera and tape recorder.

All camcorders have different qualities and features. I would look online for a user guide or survey that will better help you decide which camcorder is best for you.

Personally, I would steer away from VHS-C (if they are still on the market), HI-8 (also known as 8mm) or DVD.
VHS-C runs the problem of small tape that has to be inserted in another tape to be played in a tape deck.
Hi-8 has artifact problems where the tape deteriorates with time and mini pixelated boxes appear where the tape has lost information.
DVD is still new and there are still glitches found more so than Mini DV or DVCam. (to see for yourself tupe problems with DVD camcorders in any search engine.)
Mini DV or DVCam are popular right now. The cameras range in size and quality.

AS FOR THE BEST SITE - shop around. B&H Video in NYC is very well known and trusted by professionals and consumers. Their website is extensive so they tend to have good prices. Then another way to look at it is once you've found the camcorder you like enter it on google and see what comes up. Some websites will give free shipping or extended warranties and more.

Certainly yes, the small camcorders are sometimes called as handycams. There are some professional camcorders that are used by journalists or in films cannot be called as handycams because of their size.

Not that I know of. I think Sony used the handycam name for their camcorders.
