Why is it NYPD and FDNY v/s NYFD or PDNY? Why don’t they follow the same naming convention?

NYPD NYFD People are easily enough confused already. That's why.

It is easier to say "NYPD" than "PDNY". Plus it sounds cooler. And who really cares?
