I was told that only the bride can wear white. But then a few of us argued that if you wear another color top, or vice versa it's perfectly acceptable. Someone else argued that you can wear whatever you want, that the no white was antiquated. The bride isn't even wearing white, she's wearing ivory.... I'm not sure what the protocol is here. Help please!

Also, it's an evening wedding (5:30), so I was told that black is acceptable for an evening wedding. Someone else told me that black is only ok for a WINTER evening wedding, and that since it's in JUNE, i shouldn't wear black? What's the deal?

It might be best to ask the bride, you don't want to be the one to upset her on her big day.

But I would say it's fine. These are modern times where brides wear everything from red to white to black.

Express yourself, a wedding is a day for celebration!

Think about where the wedding is set – if it's outdoors avoid anything that will get caught in the wind – you won't want a battle of wills between the wind and your modesty! Also, avoid high heeled shoes that will sink in the sand or in the grass. If it's in a hot location avoid the suit and go for a breezy dress to help you keep your cool. Indoors at the country club or fancy restaurant? Make your outfit slightly more tailored and dressy.

Daytime Wedding
# a fun floral dress
# a skirt and a sweater set with slingback shoes. (H&M has some surprisingly affordable and stylish skirts right now that will work for a daytime wedding)
# a light colored suit – try to stay away from black, navy or anything that looks like you're going to the office.
# a beautiful hat that coordinates with your outfit.

Evening Wedding
# dress as you would if you were going out to the theater or to dinner.
# a cocktail dress – nothing too sexy but something fun to dance in. Black is fine.
# a dressy suit or a cocktail suit
# wear darker colors and look for something sophisticated
# avoid beads or sequins unless the invitation specifically says black tie

Black-tie optional
#A cocktail dress, perhaps to the floor
# a formal dress, usually to the floor
# bring out those beaded purses, fancy wraps and formal jewelry that's been waiting for an occasion such as this
# black tie weddings almost always involve dancing, so don't wear anything too constricting

DON'T WEAR:
* White. (This rule has relaxed some, and you can get away with wearing a printed dress with a white background and some cream colored clothing. Just be careful not to upstage the bride.)
* Black to a daytime wedding
* Jeans
* Anything too sexy or revealing
* Anything torn, with holes, stained, too big or too small for you!
* Anything sleeveless or strapless to a religious wedding. Bring a wrap to cover your shoulders.

Didn't we just go over this with someone else? Haha. You really should try to find something else to wear. The last girl was going to an outdoor wedding, which was what kind of made it acceptable (not really, but I digress). Even if the bride is wearing ivory, that's still pretty darn close to white and I say avoid it all together.

I happen to think you can wear whatever you want, esp if the bride isn't even wearing white. I recently went to a wedding and wore a white skirt and a yellow tank top, it was fine, I looked cute and actually I wasn't the only one wearing white. Besides they should just be happy that you showed up, whether it was for the open bar or not, lol!

Personally, I wouldn't like anyone else wearing white at my wedding in any way. Why not choose another color? There are many colors for the summer, give that a try.

I just went to a wedding where a girl showed up wearing a white spring type dress and everyone was fine with it. I think you can wear what ever you want. The bridesmaids even wore white with flowers.

Ok, try to keep the rules simple. Do not wear solid white, and do not wear solid black. I would certainly rule out the all white, considering she's not wearing white, that would just be asking for an issue in my opinion.

The bride wears white so she stands out from the crowd, it is her day to shine. You should wear a different skirt.

i'd positioned on the black and white gown with black pumps. inspite of the actual undeniable truth that the pink halter correct with black skirt will be effective, because it really is the colour of the marriage celebration, i does no longer positioned on that. you do not prefer to be matchy-matchy with your date so i does no longer positioned on the red blouse--except you may communicate him into some thing else. No tank tops. It you position on the white button up with black or brown pants, you would appear like the waitress. with the aid of the undeniable fact that's a evening wedding ceremony, that's going to be alright to positioned on black, really with the white.
