If a dog owner thinks that their dog belongs at these events then the owner them selves does not belong at the events. Any one who has the social etiquette to attend a cocktail party or go to an art exhibit would realize that that is not the place for their dog. I love my dog very much and think she so is adorable, but I have the social wherewith all to know that when I am attending those types of events that she needs to stay home.

most people do not take their dogs to such places. However, if it offends you you can say something. You don't have the right to not be offended (and they might be with your attitude). I can say this - I work in a store where dogs are welcome to come in. We don't have dogs taking things from the shelves and leaving them in another department. We don't have dogs stealing things. We don't have dogs running around climbing to the top of stacks of feed and jumping off. We don't have dogs opening toys. We don't have dogs whining and pitching a fit because they aren't getting the toy they wanted. We've had from an 8 week min pin to dobermans and great danes and all were better behaved than many children - AND ADULTS - that come in the store. Perhaps there's a clue somewhere in there.

Most do, but there is that like tenth of a percent that don't. They just don't have any regard for decency. i have a dog and she is wonderful, but I wouldn't take her to a big social event like a cocktail party. There are just some places that dogs don't belong. I know what it's like to have people bring dogs to places they shouldn't. it's especially frustrating when there's a big sign that says "no pets" outside the place.

Some people do not feel their dog is merely a pet, but an actual member of their family. Those who do not have children treat their pets as their children. (Guilty) Therefore, they feel inclined to be able to bring their pets with them everywhere. While I don't agree that they should be allowed everywhere, like grocery stores, cocktail parties, museums, etc., some dogs are better behaved than most children I've met.

Some events are for adults only. I would not take my pets to such places, just as I would not take kids. Screaming, bored young children are definitely not welcome, either. It isn't good for them, it isn't good for the rest of the people.
It's a matter of respect and common sense, both ways, but mostly towards the pet that should not be used as a mere accesory.

What I hate is when dog owners take their dog with them and leave them in a hot car (like a store), why don't they just leave the poor dog home!!
I don't think too many people take their dogs to fancy places like cocktail parties!

You are probably right, there is a place for everything but you can't tell that to a dog owner. They think their dog is the best, cutest, adorable friend they have. And I am one of them. I wish I lived in Europe where I can bring the dog everywhere.

Don't know who you are talking about but it isn't fair to say that all dog owners do this. I bet that 99.99% of dog owners do not take their dogs to art shows or cocktail parties.

You are talking to a group of people that belong to a nation that adores it when celebrities carry their pets with them places. The constant companionship sometimes causes dogs to have separation anxiety. (Or maybe the owner has separtion anxiety, that one day their dog won't be there for them) I have mixed feelings.
