I love to run and lift weights. I want to find the best way to include both in my routine, and still recieve the benefits of both without one messing up the other.

I have heard that running on same days as lifting is okay and not okay. Running on an empty stomach in the morning, running as a warm up for lifting, I'm not really sure what is best.

My plan right now

-run 20 minutes on mornings of weight lifting days (3-5 days)
-run 40 minutes on days not weight lifting (1-2 days)
-1 day rest per week

I want to run, but not destroy precious muscle.
Can I run when my muscles are recovering without burning them up, and by burning fat instead?
Is my plan okay, or is there a better method of running and lifting?

Your plan sounds excellent. I think you are letting your muscles recover by not weight lifting everyday so there really is no problem with that. If your plan is working for you, don't listen to what anybody else says!

Make sure you are feeding yourself enough energy to recover during rest. Weight training requires a lot of protein to repair muscle that exercised. Running requires carbohydrates to provide your body with energy throughout the run. I have a work out plan similar to yours. I make sure to give a muscle group a good 24 hrs rest between sessions. If you're only running for 20 minutes on off days, this shouldn't cause too many conflicts because of its relatively short duration. Good luck and keep at it.

your plan is right but make sure you have enough time to rest your muscle, mix in some massage and stretching to keep the joints lubed up.

cardio is done before weights, eating after work out is better than before. take plenty of water before and during the workout. you won't really burn the muscle,it only occurs when you don't have enough food. what happens is that your muscle loses mass and becomes saggy when you stop weights suddenly and in long periods.

Your plan sounds great. I have a plan similar to that except on the days I don't run, I lift instead. But I think either way you do it. either you run and lift on same day or lift one day and run another day are both beneficial.

As long as you are not pushing it hard during the run Its great to run before you lift. Running will allow more blood flow to the muscles during lifting. Your plan is great If you are not pushing the run to hard.

The oxygen is good for you muscles when you are lifting. I would just recommend running before you lift.
