It's true that shampooing the hair will make the color fade. If you just want to make the color fade, you can keep shampooing it. Conditioning your hair also can help to remove a little color. Using a conditioner with oil in it or even using mayonnaise [believe it or not] to condition your hair will remove some of the color. It also would be a good thing to do before trying to remove color with any harsh chemicals. Leave the conditioner on for about 30 minutes. If you can warm your hair using a heating cap or go under the dryer that will help to drive the oils into the hair and be more effective in removong color and conditioning the hair.
It depends on how light you want to go. Probably you want to go much lighter or at least change the color from black. In that case, please see a professional hair colorist. There are products that they can use to lighten your color and cause minimum damage but chose a good colorist.

You'd probably have to bleach it...and then re-dye it the shade you want. That will be a bit hard on the hair strands a bit, but if you test bleach it that is way better first, but be very careful using this product there are safety precautions to take into consideration...then... snip of a few strands say from the bottom back of the hair where it's not so noticeable and mix the bleach dye according to directions, use say a tsp of it in a plastic container or baggie and time it. Keep checking the color, and the clock until you've reached the desired color, then you know how long you should leave the bleach on. That usually worked for me. Most people at the drug stores will help you out if you're unsure, it never hurts to talk with a rep from the cosmectic counter. Good Luck!

Very weird....I have the same dilemma. I wanted it dark brown, got black instead. You can mix some volume 40 developer with your shampoo and that will fade it some. Use dandruff shampoo and hot water, also Dawn dish detergent works to help fade color, by fading it, the black, it will be easier to lighten it. Condition it often, and if you just can't take it anymore, bleach it, it will take at least 2 times to do, but make sure you know what you're doing.

Wait 1-2 weeks until you dye it again. For now wear hats. Dye it a light color such as golden blonde next because it has more bleach than dye in it, and ill not be as detrimental to your hair. If you want your hair to seem lighter in the 1-2 week waiting period, wear navy blues and purples. Wearing light colors will only make it seem worse. But, don't wear blacks because then it would look like you are going gothic. :)

My Hairstylest told my daughter that to remove any color just use a strong shampoo. Like baby shampoo anything not for color treated hair would work. this worked with us and the black streaks. Hope this helps

I'd say go to a salon and get it professionally taken out (stripped). I don't know much about hair dye (I HATE the stuff) but I think it would be expensive.

Do not do it yourself. You wil ruin your hair. Time to break down and go see your hairdresser. She'll have to strip the color and then re-apply. It may take a few visits to fix it.
