You get all the information you can in the Internet.
Make sure your child has ADHD... Are you sure? or is he/she just a superactive child with the high need to learn, and the traditional way to learn is not his way???

If you dont have a good relationship with the Dr then find a new one. But check to see if you just dont like what they are telling you.
And on a sidenote, change your child's diet. Cut out sugar, processed foods, junk food basically.

get a new doctor. Also check with your local Department of Mental Health. They should be able to help you find someone. I'm sure your state must have an SPCC that you could contact, too. They are there to help all children, not just abused ones. Good luck.

That is a really great question. I am special education teacher certified K-12 but currently teach PPCD (preschool program for children with disabilities). How old is your child? Has he actually been diagnosed with ADHD? If not your public school can help with diagnosing him at their intake center. You will need to call your school admin. office to get more information on testing for special education. Yes, ADHD falls under special education but please do not view it as a bad thing. If he is actually diagnosed with ADHD you can along with his teacher refer him to recieve special education services. These teachers will teach your child coping skills to deal with ADHD. please keep in mind that your child we not likely be in a self contained special education classroom all day. He will most likely recieve services through inclusion or a pull-out for about 30 minutes a day. Also, keep in mind that if his disability is not significantly affecting his performance at school he may not qualify to recieve spec. ed. services. Email me if you need more information.

When we run out of pills, caffeine will usually do the trick. One can of Mountain Dew before school, tends to settle them down just as well as medicine. Only, for not as long. Of course, Mountain Dew is a dentist's best friend, so make sure they brush their teeth after drinking it.

my 7 year old son has ADHD. I try everything in my nature to try and help him learn, without meds. I try to figure out his weaknesses, his strengths. Your best bet is to go to the school and have him evaluated. That way they can make an IEP (Individual Education Plan) and help you understand things you can do, to help him/her.

have them do things like sports or karate, dance, even reading... anything that they need to concentrate in. i have like 3 friends with ADHD and its good to have them stay active, because they are less hyper and they start to pay attention alot more.
