Because of his father's death?

Actually....his fathers death probably was only a small factor. When asked before the match how he would do he replied something like "I don't know. We'll see what happens" which is a real defeatist thing for him to say so his mind set had a definate effect on his game. However, he probably wouldnt have won anyways. To figure that one out you'll have to do some backtracking. If you do, you'll find out that there is a point where there is a dramatic turning point in his win ratio. It was at this point that he decided that he needed to change his swing, because to him he had run into a plateau and his skills weren't doing it for him anymore. If you look at the records you'll see that, and at that point there after, instead of being number 1, he was getting 5th place and below. So it was sad that his father died, but I don't think it was the main reason. I think that it was more of it being due to him changing something that shouldn't have been changed.

He just didn't have his best game out there this past week. He has had a lot to cope with since his father's passing. He will be back to full game in a couple of weeks. He just didn't prepare like he normally does or should have. I don't think any of us could deal with a family member's death and then being away from the competition for 9 weeks and expect to come out and play great right off the bat.

Tiger Woods can hit far of the tee, but cannot hit accurately. This course was made more difficult by exaggerating the obstacles (e.g. rough that was 5" +). Tiger's strength is his ability to "save par"...but this course was not forgiving to that kind of play. It was more friendly to "creativity" and accuracy on all shots.

I think that was the MAIN reason. Then pile on top of that the off-the-course issues (father's death, time off, etc) and you have Tiger missing the cut.

Everyone played badly due to course conditions. I think the winner was 3 over. Also, golf is as much a mental game as it is physical. I think the death of his father has a lot to do with it.

Of course, there is the conspiracy theory that if Tiger Woods consistently played up to his obvious potential every week, he would be winning every tournament making for a very dull pro golf tour. It is rumored that the PGA has told Tiger how many events he can win every season for the good of the game.

This was his first father's day without his dad. They wre bassically best friends. His dad got him started on golf, and Tiger loved his dad very much. And all you guys insulting him lay off. Tiger can hit accurately, and Brett Farve didn't play just before his first father's day without his dad. I'm suprised Tiger even played.

Because the course is tricked up. Usually in the open the golfer that is luckiest wins. Case in point the chip in by Oglivie.

No way to really know, but that probably had some impact on his performance. He is getting older and his performance isn't as consistant as it used to be. He could have had the flu, or a backache, or just a bad couple of days.
